Bring on the change!

I feel a connection with people on Spark who are working toward their goals, identifying obstacles, learning resilience and becoming happier and more confident. I also feel a connection with people on Spark who share their struggles, their down days, their fear, anxiety and even their shame.
Spark People is a wonderful way to connect; it's a resource that I've grown increasingly grateful for.
However, it's not the same kind of connection that I get from being with my oldest friends. A comment on a blog or a "Like" from a Spark friend cheers me up, but a phone call or a visit with an old friend nourishes my soul!
One of my habits that led to weight gain was a tendency to isolate when things got rough. That's why one of my goals is to call a friend every day. And I've refined that goal, because a phone call isn't enough; every single day, I try to have a meaningful connection with someone I care about.
It's so amazing to spend time with people and feel deeply comfortable, truly cared about, and really, really known and understood!!!!
Perhaps there is an evolutionary reason behind these feelings. Humans are pack animals. We evolved as social being who worked together to survive in harsh circumstances. I believe that on a very deep level, an instinctual and subconscious level, I'm only really comfortable when I know that the people around me have my back.
Feeling safe and loved makes me happy. Feeling happy helps me to persevere. Persevering, my Spark friends have shown me, is an essential component of change! BRING ON THE CHANGE!!!!
