Well, we did it. I did it! I must admit that I had my concerns and doubts about the fitness challenge goal my hubby and I set for ourselves. He is on 2 weeks vacation and instead of going away we planned a fitness challenge of a 20 mile Urban Hike around the perimeter of our fair city. Whew! We did it!
|We left at 6 in the morning and set out to our starting point and then we proceeeded over a nine hour stretch to complete the goal! we did schedule in pit stops ( usully about 10-20 min stops - Except for lunch which we gave ourselves almost an hour for.)
I am type 2 diabetic and so we had to plan in the stops for sugar checks and for rehydration and snacks. It was an amzing hike! It was fun to say hello to folks during our travels and to see areas of our community that we do not get to very often.
When we finally stopped for lunch at a local establishment around noon we laughed as we talked to the manager and she told us she had passed us at 7am way over on the other side of town. LOL
It was a fun time. A lot of work and yes, a lot of pain. I had purchased some very good walking shoes and broken them in a week before the challenge - Thank God for that!!
At the halfway mark I was really uncertain of I could finish the goal but I chose to push a little farther and at each pit stop I questioned my ability but would chose to press on to th next pit stop - sometimes a mile or two away. In the end I lasted the entire 20 miles!! I am so proud of myself!
What a sense of accomplishment!!!
