After 6 months of recording calories and burning out and then struggling with regaining, and then doing one of those crazy restrictive diets just to get back where I was....I was feeling burn out and frustration. It seemed that when I wasn't recording I would start to eat more and gain but recording calories became such a drag after a while...I found myself eating the same foods everyday because I didn't feel like looking up and calculating new things.
I happened to be in the same room (getting my hair done) with a leader of weight watchers who was explaining to me about the new program. These were her points which sold me:
*the points are now based on glycemic index, which nudges people toward eating more protein, fruits and veggies and limited amounts of carbs
*all fruits and veggies are free except dried fruits and corn (WHICH MEANS YOU DON'T HAVE TO RECORD THESE....A BIG PLUS FOR ME!!!!)
*They have something called etools with an app for the iphone (that had my interest immediately)
*Each week you get a surplus of points that you can use for those times when you have special "eating out" events and you know you're going to come in over your normal daily allotment. These points can't be accumulated, so you use or lose them each week.
*You could join for 7 days as a trial, for free
*Weight loss with this new program seems to be slow and steady, without any of the plateaus there were seeing with the previous points plan.
So I tried it out for the 7 days, and even though it's not cheap, I decided after one week to continue with it. The phone app is great and has every food you can imagine as well as all the restaurants. Keeping the points is so much less time consuming than counting calories, especially since I don't have to keep track of fruits and veggies.
I'm really liking it so far, but time will tell. It seems to be something that won't be too hard to keep up with while on vacation.
Well, I'll stop in from time to time to keep up with you on how this is working out. Other than that, I'm keeping busy with going to classes 3 days a week, gardening and the usual...getting my basement uncluttered AGAIN!
