1 Year Later

WOW! It's been a year. I can't believe it's been an entire year since I found a SparkPeople ad in my MORE magazine, and I joined this wonderful website. WOW!
I didn't start this adventure wanting to lose a lot of weight, and I really haven't... BUT I am happy to say that I have lost almost 2 pant sizes in a year. WOO HOO!! I'm almost back to my high school pant size... an unexpected and fantastic thing!
What I've learned... the scale is not my friend. It's much more rewarding to use my clothing as a "scale".
For so many years after my knee injury ended by basketball dream, all I thought I could do was walk. I've since become a long distance walker, and I absolutely LOVE IT, but what I've also gained this year is... I'm now a jogger! WOO HOO #2 I haven't run a marathon, nor have I reached my goal of jogging an entire 5k, but I'm still trotting along and going farther each time.
What I've learned... doors may close, but GOD will surely lead you to a new open window. You just have to be "open" to see it.
ZUMBA... I've recently discovered ZUMBA! WOO HOO #3 An elbow injury has me sidelined from golf right now, and I was needing something to keep me busy. I found a Zumba class at the local rec center, and now I'm absolutely hooked. I look forward to Tuesday and Thursday evenings now. What a great workout!
What I've learned... laughter is healthy, even if it's laughing at yourself in the mirror at a Zumba class.
It's been a great year, and I've learned a lot about myself. I'm ready to start Year #2 with some new goals. What I'm looking forward to is:
Consistently drinking that 8+ glasses of water daily
Saving every $5 bill that makes it into my wallet (my own silly goal)
Cooking more and eating out less
Limiting my sweet tooth cravings... work on healthy snacking
10k steps a day, but don't punish myself if I don't reach it
Jogging a full 5k
Breaking 100 in golf... when my elbow allows it
ZUMBA ZUMBA ZUMBA
Enjoying every day... don't take "life" so seriously
LIFE IS GOOD!!
