We started our trip to Florida today. Much later than I wanted. We didn't get on the road until 11:30. Too much to coordinate. But we are on our way now!
I'm doing the driving. Stopped at York, PA for lunch. Took a nap in the car while the family ate inside. When they were done, I ate a roast beef sandwich and did 15 jumping jacks to wake up. Thanks, Becky!!
We made good time though, thanks to Virginia and North Carolina's speed limit at 70.
We stopped at the Welcome Center right after entering the state of North Carolina. Saw something there that I never saw at another road-side rest. A rooster. Running around wild. My daughter shot this picture as she was stalking it. What a site her chasing that chicken!
We are spending the night in Kenly, North Carolina.
The reason for the title for this blog is that this trip is the result of a promise. As a family, we went to Disney World in 2003. My daughter was 8 at the time. I had heard of the utilidors under Disney, having seen something about them on the Wonderful World of Disney many years ago. I tried to have a tour then. They told mI was told that my daughter had to be 16 years old. I told them that it's ok; she doesn't believe in the characters. They told me it was an OSHA requirement. It was then that I said we will come back when she is 16. So, this is the year. (Besides, next year she will graduating, I don't know what she will be up to then.)
So, this trip is about promises, and dreams. Dreams for me include a bucket list. The main one is seeing the Backstage Tour, including what I call the underground city. I have a link for an article about it. I think it is from 1999, but the area hasn't changed (although the price definitely has). If you've never heard of it, check it out:
So, we are on our way. Hopefully I will be able to update you as I go.
PS - I was doing well for calories today until I had a milkshake at Hardees. I should have tracked it before I had it. 700 calories! I had no idea. But that peach milkshake was good!
