Filling a void

Friday, June 24, 2011

I was reading an article the other day and it gave what I thought was a good suggestion. In this economy with so many out of work, there is one thing that you can do that actually adds to your resume and new potential employers really like. That thing is volunteer work for charitable organizations.

This is a way to keep your skills up to date and there are lots of organizations out there just crying for the help. Sometimes it can even lead to a job. While you are looking for jobs , there can be a lot of down time. Instead of just sitting watching movies or playing video games, etc.
Share your skills with someone who can really use them.

It is really very satisfying and fulfilling. I am disabled and I was going crazy trying to fill up the hours . But I found that volunteering for a few hours here and there is just what I needed. I'm giving back and useful again. That is important to anybody, for one thing it can give you insight into other peoples troubles and just maybe yours don't look so bad afterall. So if your looking to fill some hours and stay sharp. Try volunteering.

What an excellent idea! I think if I were to volunteer somewhere (when I'm not working two stinkin jobs!), I would love to do it with animals somehow. emoticon emoticon

Wonderful post! I hope many people read this!
My DH is disabled and volunteers two to three times a week in the Memory Care Unit at a local long term care residence. He is an artist, and the residents greatly look forward to the opportunity to paint in watercolors under his tutelage
Thanks again for sharing ! emoticon
