Been away and why I need a little help....

Monday, June 20, 2011

Shortly after my birthday (the later part of May) I started planting my flower gardens. Although they aren't the biggest on the block there are four of them,
besides the perimeter of our yard (which I am trying to plant perennial so as to cut down on the planting in the future. While working on this I twisted my back in the wrong direction and was pretty much immobile for a week after which I went to see my chiropractor and am in the healing process, back to being mobile again.
My biggest regret was not keeping in touch with SP and all of my encouraging friends. I put on 5 1/2 pounds during this time (not so healthy eating and lack of exercise), but I'm not discouraged by this as some of this was out of my control. DH does not like to cook, but i gave him credit when going for burgers he ordered double tomato waited to put LF cheese on it after he came home. He really felt a little helpless with me not being able to do alot.
What I am having a problem with is re-committing to SP and just getting back to basics. I feel like I lost my "just-do-it-tiveness". I was doing so well for so long and this set back just has my head wrapped around "old" habits and weariness.
I can certainly work on eating healthier, but the exercising has to go back to short, but consistent blocks of time. Right now I've got some stretches from the doc and walking is what I can do (not power walking like I was and certainly not the dancing and marching/jogging in place.....not yet any way.
My body is starting to feel "frumpy" again and I feel stuck i place. I know I should take it just one day at a time, but it is more difficult than I care to admit.
I know there are people out there who have worse problems than mine and I feel "a little silly" for putting this out there, but in order to be accountable for me and my actions I needed to put this in print. If after reading this you have any advice (or even some articles) to push me along I sure would appreciate it.
Hugs go out to all who read this.......have a good day and thank you for being so understanding.

I have done the same thing. Don't feel silly. Take good care not to overdo it and give yourself time to heal. We can do this. one day at a time. Hugs.

Lord don't feel silly I know exactly how you feel sometimes, it's just easier to revert to old ways, but then like you say we now notice that icky slugglish feeling we get. You will get back on track you made the first step you blogged and opened it up to your friends. One day one step you will succeed! emoticon

Hi Barb, glad you're back! Please turn those negative feelings you're having around to the positive. I personally don't know the pain of "putting the back out of whack", but my hubby did just that two years ago. He literally could not walk for several days due to the pain. Movement is the BEST thing to do, even if it's small amounts at first. Keep moving and keep gaining that flexibility back. It will do wonders for changing the "frumpy" feelings into "alive and happy" feelings again. You CAN do it! Welcome back!

So glad to see you back! And I'm sorry you're having to go through the pain and discomfort and the frustration.

It sounds like you are getting your "sparkness" back. I kind of went through a couple of months of "eh" about the same time you got injured. I just couldn't seem to get back to being involved. Then I stepped on the scale and had gained about 6 lbs! And I'm not even injured!

Do the stretches the doctor told you, take small walks, make a minor change to the diet every day - next time burgers without cheese! You WILL get back. And we're here to help!

Welcome Back!!!! Obviously you haven't lost your "just-do-it-tiveness" because you are back on SP when you might not be feeling it just yet but it's there. I'm a firm believer that working hand in hand together and supporting each other we can do this!!!! emoticon

Glad you're back!!! Well, you've been through a lot to boot, so that doesn't help matters either!

You can do this just taking it day-by-day. I know the mindset . . . you want the weight gone yesterday. **SIGH**

I can remember when I was first very ill in 1998 and one of the things that happened was I could not walk. Had to practice doing it all over again. Each day I made up my mind I'd take just one more step and built on that. Eventually I was up to 2 miles/day and built on that.

    So, little steps. You know!

    HUGS and glad you're back.

It is so nice to have you back here and posting. Take it easy starting back with the exercise. For me personally, I am convinced that power walking is not necessary and is harder on the joints than I need. I live in a beautiful part of the country and just need to start getting out and walking leisurely and enjoying the beauty and alone time to think. So go at your own pace.

    Hi Barb...
I know how you feel BUT...
You need to take every slightly negative statement in your blog and make it a positive one. Try it and say them out loud..
You'll probably laugh and feel silly...BUT as in everything else..
    Repetion makes it a habit...And a Good One at That ! ! !
So Glad you are back with us and I do hope you feel better real soon...
    Love Ya Lots...
