June 9 - Carrying Snowball bouquet in one arm and 6 ft pruners in the other I fell face first over a strawberry jar I was planting to take to mom and a bucket full of blooms. I didnt even have time to register the fall, saw my arm come up in front of my face and then hit the ramp. It was the wheelchair ramp not concrete or I would have been knocked out or worse.
I laid there for a couple seconds and then thought I better figure out if I'm going to be able to get up or I might stiffen up and not get up. So I dragged myself inside and yelled for my daughter and she came to see what I wanted and got a littlw freaked out because blood was dripping down my legs and I was slumped in the chair holding my arm. She got me a cooler of ice water and I soaked the arm and tried to figure out if I wanted to go to the hospital. No, I thought not that much pain, maybe a sprain. Blood was just scraped knees and a totally purple big toe from tripping.
I did go to the dr next day and they saw a fracture in one of the wrist bones and told me I got lucky and told me to come back in a few days for a cast. I went back, new xrays show the large arm bone is fractured all the way across so now I'm in a cast up to the mid-arm above the elbow and typing with the left hand.
I've been going for walks but my garden dreams are over for this summer. I had made a big (25 containers) garden at the nursing home and had my hanging baskets and deck pots done but not my new beds or veg garden. Those of you who garden will understand how much I will miss playing in the dirt. The cast is coming off a few days before our beach trip in August - YAY! I am driving one handed and very warily but am finding I am more adaptable than I thought I would be even tho it really slows me down, is seriously annoying! But enuf whining - 7 weeks to go!
Next I get to treat myself to a mani - pedi -- I cant figure out how to do nails with my left hand.
