Yup I am in an odd mood this morning.
Was kinda dragging myself through my morning workout video when suddenly the Frog Chorus by Paul Mc Cartney popped into my head.... and it made me laugh, totally cheered me up, have a listen:
OK prepare yourselves because what is about to follow is corny and cheesy: But it seemed to me to be a lovely analogy for SP, that whole 'win or loose, sink or swim, one thing is certain we never give in, side by side, hand in hand, we all stand together' struck me as similar to the support we all get and give here. We are stronger for helping some one out, giving advice, lending support, or just providing a place for some one to confide in non-judgmental people. And when we have a problem, or an achievement to talk about we know that there is a whole crowd of people on SP ready to help or cheer you on immediately.
Its easy to feel like you are alone on a journey to help yourself feel better about your body, or regain that confidence that you feel has slipped away from you. It can be terribly isolating when you feel like your friends and family around you either don't want you to change for the better or just flat out doubt your ability to turn your life around, maybe because they can't do it for themselves. But with all this it is wonderful to be able to turn to the SP community and vent or celebrate or just have a chat, maybe about work outs and good food (maybe your friends or partner are sick of you extolling the virtues of strength training....). As for the days when I feel like I'm hauling myself through a never ending workout (and trust me there are many of them!) its motivating to think, 'I am not the only one who finds this hard' everyone has their off days, no one is going to judge me if I'm not super motivated, and oddly enough this helps me through, takes a bit of pressure off.
So stand tall, walk tall and be proud of your achievements and of your slip ups and the lessons they've taught you, because we are all here to cheer you on and catch you if you trip.
(apologies to the lactose intolerant who may have some stomach discomfort after reading this post...it will pass I promise)
