Huh, what does that scale say?!

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

So today is weigh in day. I way myself every Wednesdays and it's been very hard to not try and weigh myself throughout the week. But I did it! I not once stepped on the scale just to take a peek, I was quit e proud of myself. I was also getting very excited for weigh in day, hoping for big results because I have been very religious with my cardio and strength training as well as keeping my calories at 1200.

So here I am waking up getting super anxious to step on the scale. I head into my bathroom, shed my clothes, because I can't have ANY extra weight on me lol and step on that mighty scale thinking today is going to be good, then I see the number and it came up quick too, quicker than normal. 187.2 was the number I saw. I didn't believe it so I got off and tried again thinking the darn digital scale gets a bit wonky sometimes. Nope 187.2

I just wanted to cry, yes it is one pound down but why only one?! I've been doing great being very disciplined. I know I am building muscle right now and that's probably it b/c I feel great and clothes are getting loose on me, but honestly I would rather the scale go down first. I'm a little bummed but still determined! Not going to let this ruin me.

emoticon You were expecting more, doing so good and then the scale didn't reflect what you know. So don't let the fact that it was ONLY one pound, which is a loss and is awesome, undo all that you have worked so hard for. Wait for it and it will show up.

I weigh in on Wednesdays too and when i stepped on the scale this morning, i did the exact same thing you did. I got off the scale and re-weighed myself because I didn't believe what i was seeing. But to my surprise, the second reading said the same thing---down only one pound from last week. I'm like you too, i eat between 1100-1200 cals a day and exercise four to five times a week, burning off 500+ cals with each exercise.

So why did that scale read one pound less? Well, it is because I have been strength training as well. When we do that, we build muscles and muscles is heavier than fat. So don't fret my fellow sparkler on what that scale said, just continue to do what you are doing, keep building those muscles, and watch that scale suddenly go down lower than you would expect it to in the future. As long as you are tighten up and losing those inches, that's all that matters.

Don't worry about the scale - it's all just gravity anyway and sometimes I really believe Mother Earth just likes to pull us a little closer so it seems like we weigh more. Look at how your clothes fit and take note of your positive "can-do" attitude.

One pound is a pound gone - never to return! Best of luck to you.

There are other ways to tell if you are succeeding, like your clothes being looser. One pound a week is great. About what they suggest. Keep up the good work and celebrate every loss, even one pound.

Keep your head up. One pound is still one pound. And just think of all that lean muscle your going to have. emoticon

I completely understand how you feel. And although I read article after article, blog after blog about not using the scale as a form of measurement... I still want to see the difference there. And I know every article, every blog is right it can't be the end all and be all of judging our health and fitness levels. So just like you I shake it off and keep moving forward! And one pound is progress! Congratulations and Way to do it! Pounds are like pennies, everyone counts!

I feel the same way. I always look to the scale to tell me if I am doing well or not. ( and based on what it says will pretty much determine how I feel for the rest of the day). That said, try not to focus on the number. (which is impossible for me too) but think about how you feel stronger, and the fact that your clothes are looser. Those are the real factors that you and others will notice. 1 pound is a healthy amount to lose for one week. You are doing awesome. Keep it up.
