Feeling a little sad.

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Friday afternoon our house got broken into. They didn't take much, but I hated that someone was in our house and went through all our stuff. It sucks. I spent all morning crying - I feel so violated. The worst part was when the police were here last night and gave me this brochure about how to deal with being a Crime Victim. They took pictures of the "scene" and it was awful. I know they have to take pictures and everything, but that is my personal stuff. My things that mean something to me. And to everyone else, it's just a crime scene.

I'm pretty lucky, actually - nobody was home, and nothing really important is missing. I am going to keep an eye on my accounts, but I think it was just some POS looking for money and things to sell. Ugh. I don't know how in the hell they think they're going to sell the ancient DVD player...

So I have been spending the day cleaning up and putting things away. I even installed a new lock! By myself!

I guess a blessing in disguise is that Brad and I are really motivated to get cleaned up to put the house on the market... since everything was dumped, we have an opportunity to go through everything and purge some things.

This experience has really made me thankful that I don't have lots of gadgets or things...

Off to put some more stuff away.

Be safe.

Oh honey! I'm only just reading this now! I'm so sorry to hear what happened but I'm glad you're thinking positively about it. I know when Alan was mugged we were just so thankful that he wasn't hurt. You can replace stuff but people are irreplacable!

Big hugs to you!!!

I'm so glad that you're ok, that nothing important was taken, and that you only have to clean up. I still get weird when I think about moving out of my appartment, and finding a random man in my bathroom. Scared the sh!t out of me!.. Not a fun thing.

I grabbed the things that we had left in the place, and didn't go back to clean it. I didn't care if I had to pay for it, I couldn't walk back in.

Proud of you for replacing the lock by yourself.

I'm so sorry! It's terrible to feel victimized and powerless. I'm glad you weren't home, and that nothing valuable was taken. Most important, you're looking forward to taking steps to move on.

How awful! I am so glad you were not home. We once had stuff taken out of our truck that was in the driveway and next to the window to our bedroom. I was shocked that we didn't hear anything! Though I cannot imagine how I would feel if they had actually been in the house.

That's so HORRIBLE! I had someone steal my car from my driveway a few years ago and, though I laughed it off (it was a crappy car) and pretended I could see the positives out of it, the truth was, I was devastated that someone could violate my personal space and privacy with such little disregard.

It made me very bitter, censorious, and angry for a long time and threatened my strong belief that there is good in all people. I've had to work really hard to regain my sense of security and goodwill toward my fellow man.

Sending you big hugs. I'm glad you're physically ok and that you are able to focus on the positives. Hug each other and stay your sweet self!

What an awful experience for you. I can't even imagine how I would feel if this were to happen. I'm glad no one was hurt and I hope that you can get the house sold and somehow put this behind you and start fresh.

Our house was broke into years ago. They spent most of the time in our bedroom rummaging around and taking things. I cried for a full week or so. I felt so violated. I wouldn't sleep in the room. Hubs decided that it was time to renovate our bedroom. He gutted EVERYTHING. But I still think about every once in a while all these years later.

I'm so glad that no one was home. No one was hurt. Nothing important was taken. But I do understand your feelings.

So sorry about the invasion of your home, but as you stated it's lucky no one was home. People are desperate and will do desperate things.

Sunny side is that you did get to jettison some items you didn't want anymore!

I'm so sorry about your break-in. However, I'm glad you weren't home when it happened. I like your positive attitude in seeing this as a motivator to get you started on cleaning out your house.

While visiting my daughter last weekend, someone decided to help themselves to my flowers. I come back home and my flowers were almost wiped out! This is the first this has ever happened to me. I planted some more and rearranged my patio to hide them.. I'm figuring if it happens again, I just won't plant anymore.

This year has been a rough year, so I was determined to have a patio full of colorful flowers! Oh well, I still have peace inside.

Hope everything works out with you selling your home. emoticon emoticon
