Shoulder update

Friday, June 10, 2011

Oh gosh! What did I do now? All I did was unfasten my bra and my shoulder is killing me. I was not wearing one yesterday that fastens in the front. I have to since surgery put and takeoff the bra backwards if I wear a conventional bra. It is a pain and the neck to so because you have to hook it up in the front and then twist it around to the back and then put the straps up.

Well now it is a pain in my shoulder because I did not do that. Hope I did not rip anything, hope my internal stitches would have dissolved by now as it is almost 7 weeks since surgery. Couldn't sleep because I couldn't find a comfortable position to put my arm and shoulder in. Looking forward to the day when I can just lie down normal without having to worry how my shoulder is lined up and where I have to prop up my pillow to do so. I shouldn't complain about that though because most people that have had rotator surgery have to sleep in a recliner for a couple of months. I slept in a bed from day one.

My walk this morning was even painful. Guess I should have worn the sling for support because after 5 minutes or so it was aching. I had to cradle my arm to take pressure off the shoulder for the rest of my walk. Good thing it was early this morning (before 6 AM) so no one saw me. Looking forward to physical therapy and having her just tell me it was a stupid move on my part and that I just over stretched it - again. Do I ever learn? NO! I always push the envelope before I am given permission to move that way.

I am sorry about your shoulder. I didn't know bras could be so dangerous. I am dangerous if I don't wear a bra. I would either trip over them or hit someone with them. I can finally say old age is wonderful!!

You and I are in the same boat. I had my rotator cuff done on May 5th. I also had to use a pillow under my shoulder / arm for the first 3-4 weeks after surgery for comfort.

I had a few old, stretched out cotton bras that I was able to pre-hook and then wiggle into them like a shirt. Not easy but it worked out. I found I strained my arm with the front hook bras at first, but now it is fine.

Heal well..heal strong. Healing wishes sent your direction!
I know what you are going through - at the end we will be thankful to have our arm back 100%!

There are ointments like China Balm that could help. When I broke my fibia and tibia un a ski accident, theointment was a Godsend!

Yeah, I'm getting kind of tired of the whole bra routine, too. Fortunately I can unfasten my bras with my left hand. (Every time I do it I can't help thinking of smooth operating teenage boys who probably practice with their mom's bras in case they ever get lucky. LOL)

Putting it on is annoying, though.

And yeah, I'm getting sick of the sleeping arrangements, also. My favorite position is on my left side with my injured right arm draped over a pillow next to me. That is all fine. The problem is actually my left EAR. Which gets sore because it appears that once I get into that position I stay there. For hours. And my EAR, of all things, gets really really sore from being leant on like that.

Hang in there, chica. We'll get there. For now, see if ice will help...
