Finding a food plan that works for a lifetime.

Thursday, June 09, 2011

After all my years of dieting, I realize now that this is a lifelong journey and I will always need to have a plan in place. I want to have a food plan that works for a lifetime. About 5 years ago I found a program that allowed me to lose over 100 lb. It was suppose to be a way of life and not a diet. The only problem for me was that it was NOT something I could stick to for he rest of my life. It was 3 weighed and measured meals off a particular plan with NOTHING in between, ever. I had to weigh and measure my food even in restaurants and you could never have anything off the list of foods. It did just not allow for "life". So although I lost over 100 lb., I could never stick to the plan as written so I always felt like a failure. Now, don't get me wrong, this is a GREAT plan and there are many people who do it for a lifetime. But, for me, I always felt like I was trying to put a square peg into a round hole. I am a compulsive overeater and belong to Overeaters Anonymous. I know I need structure, accountability and support. This program of recovery offers me the help I need. It does not, however, endorse any particular food plan. It is recommended that you find a food plan and someone to commit your food to in the program.

I have struggled with 30 lb. that I regained for some time now. Three months ago I had unexpected open heart surgery. It gave me to motivation I need to find a food plan that works and to take this last 30 lb.off. I use my cardiac diet for the types of food I eat. I use the structure of another program for planning my meals. I have structured my plan around my lifestyle and needs and it is working for me. For 19 days in a row I have been able to stick to this plan. That is nothing short of a miracle. It has been a very long time since I have had that many days back to back. The best part though is my food plan allows for life and also can be subject to change as my needs change. Having someone to be accountable to is a very important part of this plan.

There are so many food plans that work but finding the one for you is the key. I am so thankful to have found a plan that works for me that supports my goal to become healthy and stay healthy.
