Things are chugging along for Mom. She is scheduled now for surgery on Friday (she thought it was going to be tomorrow-Thursday).
She met with a breast specialist yesterday. The tumor Mom has is encapsulated (VERY good news! That means it hasn't spread). That is a huge relief.
Today she is meeting with a geneticist for the BRCA-2 test. I really don't think that will change her course of therapy, but we'll see. Then she meets with the surgeon and will get the final details of her surgery. Right now she is told it will be Friday, and she will be in hospital for a day or 2 as she has been on coumadin and they want to check for any bleeding. Monday she has a followup appt. at which time I'm assuming she'll get the final path report on both the lump and lymph node they remove in surgery.
As far as aftercare, there are several ways it can go:
1. radiation
2. radiation + chemo
3. radiation + chemo + Tamoxifen
4. radiation + Tamoxifen
5. Tamoxifen alone
I keep my fingers crossed that if there is any treatment required post surgery that it's just the Tamoxifen. But right now, just prayerfully thankful that the indications are that there is no spread.
UGH. Wish I could go through it for her, but that's not how life works.
All good thoughts and prayers truely appreciated.
