Mindless Eating? NOT ME! Eating Changes I've Made (A&I BSG Blog)

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

*How have you changed your routines related to overeating? I try to think before I eat. It's still a work in progress. But I evaluate if my stomach feels full and if it does, I'll drink some water to feel even fuller.

*If you are used to snacking/overeating at a certain time of day, how do you resist that urge? At night after DD is asleep is when I usually tend to overeat. Again, I might drink water or find something that is not heavy before bed.

*What have you scheduled to replace the eating? I have been trying to get together with more friends or small groups through my church. Sometimes, if not too hot, I've gone out with DD for a walk.

What have you replaced the “old” snacks/food with? I am still working on this. My old/current snacks are often cheaper than the healthier. Right now I've been trying to find what is cheaper and that's not always healthier. But I am considering the Jell-o Mouse Temptations for ice cream. They are sugar free and quite yummy. I used to eat them. Also, think light pop-corn replaces some of the chips or other high calorie snacks.

*If your routine was to eat while watching TV or while on the computer, how did you break that link? In my current scenario, this has not happened. I want it to happen but it's a hard habit to break. I need to work on freeing the kitchen table from the thousands of envelopes and then I would have a place to sit down for dinner. DH & DD also do the watch tv & eat. I would truly like to change this for DD at least. I'm hoping to get a better handle on this by the fall when she starts kindergarten. Going forward, I'm also going to start making up menus a week at a time and plan grocery shopping accordingly-this would work with coupon planning too!

*Share the changes that have worked for you and that have helped you stop mindless eating. What has really worked for me besides going and talking with my counselor, is a suggestion she made a couple of months ago...journaling! When I am upset or have something on my mind, I am working on getting my feelings on paper instead of turning to that pint of Ben & Jerry's or that block of cheese or bag of junk. It made a huge difference. I'm really working hard on drinking 64oz+ daily-especially with the heat in my area. It's helping a lot!

I have really been kicking up my water and am proud to announce I'm down another 6lbs as of this morning. emoticon I was really happy to see that. I know that water has made all the difference. I'm not saying I was perfect on the sodium front but I definitely tried not to overdo it when I knew I needed to weigh in. I am thankful I have God and my SP friends by my side! emoticon

Another great substitute for ice cream is making a fruit smoothie using frozen bananas. It gives it an icecream like texture.

emoticon , blog Simone. I do not add salt to any of my foods any longer. I use Mrs Dash. There so many different types now a days. I also like to use fresh garlic for seasoning.

I find that I too try to really reevaluate if I am REALLY hungry to just bored or stressed? Some times if this is the case then I can eat something like salsa & chips, red vines (fat free) keep them in a drawer & some times forget they are in there? lol Then if they are fattening snacks I don't lock them away but I keep them in the cabinet. If they are on the counter, then every time I pass by them, a cookie or donut hole or 3 will find there way into my tummy. Don't mind too much as I have kicked up my cardio to at least 30-60mins 5 days a week. Looking better but I know that I could do so much more. So the less junk I eat the more focused I am on everything else.

God bless & thanks for sharing this blog!

Great changes that you have made. Its also great that you are honest to yourself in that you still have more changes to make. I think a huge problem is when we aren't honest with ourselves. One step at a time will get you to the end!!

OH, and can't forget WOO HOO and CONGRATS on that loss!!!! WTG
