Today is my fast day

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

Fast day, as in not eating for 24 hours, not fast as in speedy! I've been doing a 24 hour fast once a week from noon Wed to noon Thursday. So really I only miss one meal -- Wed. dinner.

I just love how I feel on fast day and the day after! On the morning of fast day, I wake up knowing that today I get to have a break from "having to have my own way" all the time. I enjoy my exercise, my breakfast, my light lunch, and then leave the kitchen until tomorrow. I feel at peace because I know there's no way I'm going to be out of control with my eating today. I might get hungry in the evening, but it's freeing to know that I don't have to obey every little demand my body might be making. I don't have to follow the impulse to pop something in my mouth. Instead of eating supper, I'll spend the extra time on my screened porch by the river reading a book.

Have you ever tried fasting? If you've never tried a fast, think about it. You really feel clean and peaceful.

Yes, I have fasted and it is very refreshing. It has been awhile but I think you have me thinking about doing it again.
Thanks for reminding me. Your picture is beautiful of your back porch. Have a great week-end. June

I've done juice fasting, once a week for 24 hours, but haven't since starting here at SP. I need to start again. I did it on Mondays to help get myself back under control after the weekend, and always felt so good while doing it and the next day. I'm glad you are finding it to be helpful!

I have NOT tried fasting -- other than medically enforced fasting for tests or procedures. I have "thought" about doing a spiritual fast... and honestly, I think that's the only thing that I would be willing to do it for. It MAY benefit me in other ways, but I don't think I would succeed unless I was doing it for the Lord. I would certainly need his strength to get me through a sleepless, hungry night!!! emoticon But hurray for YOU doing it! I bet it does feel refreshing! emoticon
