Should they stay or should they go?

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

I cleaned out my closet yesterday and removed the clothes that were clearly too large for me. Should I donate them or should I hold onto them (just in case)?

I know that getting rid of them is the right choice. I am committed to this new lifestyle, but there is the little voice in my head that asks why, after so many attempts, is this one different? It seems wasteful to get rid of them. What if I have to purchase new clothes in a larger size?

Decisions, decisions . . .

Thanks for your comments. I decided to think on it for a week and have decided that they are gone! I will save one outfit for the traditional goal photo but the rest are going to be passed on.

I understand completely! Get rid of them...if you gain the weight back (which I'm sure you won't!!!) then the clothes will probably be out of style anyways because it would be soooooo far down the road. :-)

Keeping them is like giving yourself permission to gain the weight back and it is oh so easy to just slide back up a size when they are there. When you don't have clothes to grow into, you tend to try a little harder!

I agree with the others! I gave away over 25 years of accumulation of clothes, shoes, etc in one fell swoop. I was on my way up in weight because of medications and some medical problems. Found a shop called Bonworth that has very affordable clothes - pair of slacks in every color for $9.99 with elastic waist. I now have them in Large, Medium and Small. They do not have the style or price tags of what I donated, but the will do the job until I can get where I need to be. Think of all the other people you will be helping.

Proud of you girl! Looking forward to getting my weight and shape where I want it to be.

I wanted to keep the clothes that got to big for me too, but my Hubby took them to Goodwill. His reasoning was this is a different plan - not a diet but a lifestyle change. I say - don't give yourself an excuse to be able to quit. Make a commitment to this change and get rid of those big clothes!
