What better excuse to escape the AZ heat than a HM in San Diego. It is HEAVEN to be running in 60 degree temps. This was HM #10 for me and the course and the weather created the perfect environment for me to shave 7 minutes off my best time for a new PR of 2:40:24!!! Woohoo!!!
We started the weekend by driving over to San Diego on Friday (My DH and I rode over with his brother and his wife). First stop was the Expo for our race stuff....this was my sister-in-law's 4th HM. One of the biggest and best expos so far on the RnR circuit. Saturday was a day to RELAX and enjoy the sights of San Diego. First up was Seaport Village.
Even with the wind blowing, these did not budge. Hmmmmm. Lots of street vendors and lots of clear skies and cool ocean breezes.
Then we headed over to Harbor Island where we spotted Capt Jack racing a jet ski....LOL
Race day was picture perfect....no June Gloom this year. The cool, clear morning quickly warmed up by the 6:15 start time. This was my 7th HM running in the same pair of Vibram 5 Fingers so I guess I'm a moving endorsement.
There were 32,000 participants in this years marathon/half-marathon and relay. So if you don't like crowds this is not the place to be. My sister-in-law Jo Ann and I posing with our latest 'BLING'.
I missed the Half Fanatics group picture but along the race another HF spotted my shirt and I recognized her from SP....so I got to run with RUNNRGRRL74 (Holly) for a little while. One of those MENT2BE moments. She was running with the Team In Training group from Florida.
After the race (and a shower) we headed to Old Town San Diego where I met up with another Sparker MARATHONMOM26.2 (Tammy and Bob) and her DH.
They did the MARSOC (Marine Corps) Mud Run at Camp Pendleton while we were doing the HM on Sunday morining. What a hoot to hear about that race.....so much fun, so much history. Thanks again Tammy for driving down to join the family for some margaritas and mexican food.
For those of you who haven't had a chance to do a Rock n Roll event, here is a sample of the HIGH energy. I did not get to see this in person since I was in the 'potty' line but it was all over the news after the race.
