Probate - AARGH!!!!

*6/6* The death certificates came today - so I am running around trying to get things done. My appetite is off and I am not on track today - but it is ok, because this is temporary and I am learning more about being an executrix than anyone will ever want to know.

My new "dirty-word" is probate! Probate is a very expensive word - it costs about $2000 and isn't what I thought it was. *sigh*

Today we are trying to avoid that very dirty word *probate*!

If it takes a few more calories - so be it, lol.

**I misunderstood and thought contesting the will was the reason for probate - but probate is when banks will not let you liquidate in fear of creditors coming out of the woodwork. So we have to allow 3-1/2 years until the statute of limitations is complete or pay for the probate. We are only dealing with one house and one mobile home still under mortgage - with this market, nothing will move quickly anyway. Everything works out in the end.

I even had a tiny calorie deficit today! Go figure!!

    There is SO much paperwork to do after a death! When I got everything done after the death of my first husband, I felt like a weight had been lifted off me! Hang in there!

    Yes I know some of what you are dealing with. Walt's father passed two and a half years ago and we are still wading through paperwork concerning his will and receiving what he left each of his five offspring. You'd think a will would be the final statement and things would go through without a hitch. but your right all things work out in the end. We are just waiting for the one set of signatures to be passed and things should finally be cleared up this year.

    I know this is so stressful on top of losing a beloved family member, so just do what you have to and taking care of yourself is the main priority.

Probate can be a royal pain in the butt.
Look after yourself while it's going through and don't let it rule your life hun.

    Sorry to hear about your problems, my husband and I found out the rules in denmark are tough.. We began paying money back and forthward before my mother in law died.. We didn't get hit with probate and when my husband died- no one contested the will..
I know only have to pay off the debit from my husbands especial needs.. In 4 years I will be debit free..

    I know this is too late and won't help you now, but my Mom had everything put in my name years before she passed so us kids wouldn't have to go thru probate. Everything was done and settled in a month. So I guess this could help you. If you have kids or someone you want to leave everything too, get their names put on it, house title, car title, etc. My dad already has everything ready to go so no work for us kids.

    Sorry more confusion and bother I was lucky mums wasn' t probated but figure dads may be cos he is the "last" but he hasn't got much and as I am an only it all goes to me. I don't know what will go on. I have my name on his savings and reg account and other than that his belongings and his car.
not fun when you have other things going on too. HUGS and it will be over but sorry it is so $$. silly isn't it what they do when you die. Why can't they just let you be..............

    The "P" word can be very unpleasant, I agree! Fortunately for my sister, brother and I, our dad was very organized and we didn't have to go through that. With the lawyer he and Mom have we hopefully won't have to do it for her either. Hang in there!

    Unfortunately we all have to go thorough this ..Just take your time and make sure you rest up perhaps the added stress will help with losing lbs !!

    My sister & I did it jointly when Mom died. Very stressful and I had to keep making trips back to WV. All of this was even worse for poor Dad who thought that we were trying to take everything from him every time we had to ask personal financial questions. We were so glad to finally sign it all over to him months later.

    I was the exectutor of my Father's estate. He was so organized that Iwas able to avoid probate. I considered myself lucky. I wouldm't be too worried about calories either. Especially since I know you'll get back on track when all is settled.

    Well, I'm sorry you are having to deal with this unpleasant stuff,but just maybe the added stress will help burn as many extra calories that you have to eat for fuel and keep you from having a calorie overload! Big emoticon my friend! emoticon
