The visit to the doc

Monday, June 06, 2011

I had a med check visit with my doc this morning. She said that my blood pressure was elevated. She said that my A1C test indicated borderline diabetes.

We talked about my weight and what I was doing in regards to my health.

I talked to her about some of the things that I have learned this last year. I talked to her about some of my fears.

She told me that some of my fears would really not be an issue for me. She told me that I need to get my weight under control. She told me her goals. They are for me to lose about 70 pounds (to start). To exercise and get to a place where I am comfortable working out 45 minutes daily for 6 days a week.

She told me that she know I can do this.

Now the big question is do I believe her? Can I do this?

I think I can. I think I am finally at the place that I need to be to make this happen once and for all.

Gf, I have known you for a while and KNOW you can do this. I'm not letting you not do it either. LOL. This is no longer and option. You do not want diabetes.

You must believe your doctor Tina! She is on your side. She knows you! She believes in you. We believe in you! No more negative tapes playing in your head! I struggle with letting things go too but I'm learning not to let the past dictate my future. You need positive self talk and given time you will believe the good things and drown out the bad! And that Culver's revelation was awesome!! Just one small example of the progress you've made already!! emoticon

Cat it isn't that anyone physically looks at what I am eating anymore but the tapes still play in my head. I just can't seem to shake some of those negative things that replay in my mind over and over again. It seems that I had a lot of those negative tapes playing over and over again. Some of them I have been able to shut down but others seem real hard for me to get under control but I am still here at SP and still trying.

Tina, so glad to hear you going into this with a positive attitude. Writing down your foods really makes you accountable, but it only has to be for you to see. It's nobody else's business. Sometimes it helps to write down your stress level too. That way you can see your triggers. Hope you get that internet issue resolved quickly. Cuz were gonna do this!

I agree with Raelene that your doctor sounds easy to talk to. I too struggle to stay below the borderline level for diabetes. Exercise has made a difference for me. Now that I started, I can't stop. Better food choices helps too although I still struggle with that somedays. I live with a Type 1 diabetic who, of course, is insulin dependent. That helps motivate me. You'll have lots of support on your NC WI Team.

Good luck!!

    Good to see you Raelene.

She said to continue with the WW. To work on writing my food down. If writing the actual foods brings up issues I have had with people critisizing my food choices just write the point values. To work on getting the exercise in. She wants 6 days a week 45 minutes a day. That is the goal.

So that is how I am to get there. Focus on fruit and veg. Stop when I am full.
