Dealing with the pain better today

Sunday, June 05, 2011

I was so sleepy last night that I could not keep my eyes open to read for very long, but that is not a bad thing; I'd rather fall asleep sooner than to toss and turn half the night. I was asleep by midnight and up at 7:30am this morning.

Hip pain was only slightly better when I got up, just more of a dull pain rather than the sharper pain I had yesterday. This afternoon, two pain pills later, it is feeling a little better. Really feeling it more in my back today, which is probably where the pain is actually coming from. I put a Tylenol Precise pain patch on my lower back this morning and it's helping a little bit. I just wish the pain pills didn't make me so tired, especially when I'm tired enough without them because of the chemo.

Hot out again today, in the 80's, but when I was outside after breakfast, it felt nice, it was still in the 70's then. I tried to do some more weeding, was shooting for working on it for 10 minutes but could only do 8. I never did get a chance to sit outside and read last night like I wanted too; I stepped outside at 7pm and it was just too hot, even in the shade. I'm so thankful I have central air, I don't do well in heat at all.

After coming in and sitting for awhile to take a break, I cleaned and vacuumed my floors. My back was a little stiff so I did the standing portion of my Tai Chi DVD. It didn't make me feel better right away, but I believe it helped with the pain this afternoon, I don't think it was just the pain pills that made me feel better. Even when my pain is at it's worst, I try to get up and move around throughout the day, too much sitting actually makes the sciatica worse.

I usually have to do my morning stretching before getting up in the morning, unless I get up without doing it (like this morning). It usually stretches out the pain out of my low back and sciatica. I do feel your pain.

It takes a lot of determination and willpower to get up and work through the pain as you do. I hope your day has been more comfortable with less pain.

I really admire you for how much you are doing to keep working thru the pain. To weed, clean your house and vacuum--way to go! Keep working thru it!

Does the Tai Chi make a difference with your pain or does it just help you to stay flexible and/or limber. I have been toying with the idea of doing yoga but that would just be to strengthen and stretch what I can, is it like Tai Chi or is Tai Chi more like pilates? I really need to work on my flexibility and you talk about Tai Chi a lot so I'm wondering about that... Do the videos explain everything or would someone need to maybe take a class first?

Hey Shari, Sorry you have had pain today. It's been hot here too. I sit out in the mornings, after I water all my flowers & veggies. It is usually pretty nice in the morning. I hope you have a good sleep tonight. Take good care. ~hugs~ Nancy
