Half way up

Friday, June 03, 2011

This morning when I weighed in, the scale said 168--that puts me 35 lbs. down from my starting point, and half-way through this weight loss journey. It's taken me ten months to get there--probably a record for crawling along--and the last three pounds have taken three months. Well, really it's been up a pound, down a pound, etc.

However, when I read my goal statement from July, I realize that truly I have succeeded. I didn't say "lose 70 pounds by my birthday," I said, "be healthier." And I am--I am 35 lbs lighter, I haven't eaten fast food for ten months, I've lost 5 inches off my waist and hips, I'm wearing one to two sizes smaller clothes, and most importantly, I have exercised almost every single day of those months. I can do a plank; I can stand on one foot with my other foot tucked up behind my butt and not fall over; I can swim the Amazon river through schools of hungry piranha-- I can succeed at this.

Even if I only maintain this miserable one pound a month rate,, this time next year I'd be twelve pounds lighter. If I do better, it will be better. And from here, from the half-way point, the view is just fine!

You are doing great honey. Way to go with the positive attitude. I wrote a blog a few months back about why I was not celebrating my 50lb loss... basically because it took me two years of back and forth, stopping and starting, repeat.... to get there and I didn't have the taste of victory. Well you know, as of today I am down 75lbs and I think that is fantastic. I celebrated and I posted it on my facebook and put new photos on Spark and a new blog. Loss is loss and it is something fantastic because it means we are just that much closer to health and contentment. It doesn't matter how long it takes us, as long as we have made some progress, that is all that matters. The weight battle is not timed. You keep it up and those pounds will go away. ((HUG))

You are awesome! You never know when out-swimming a piranha will come in handy. You have done so well so far! I know you will be even healthier this next year. Especially if we institute national bran flakes day.
