New Knitting Class (without snacks)

Thursday, June 02, 2011

I have been searching for a hobby that I could enjoy at night and would help me stop my night time eating habits and get me out of the house for a little social time during the summer break. I already knew how to knit a little, but today was my first class at a beautiful store I didn't know existed. There were three other ladies who were there along with the instructor. The store has many beautiful yarns to select from and our group will meet every Thursday from 1:30 - 3:30. We can bring any project and get individualized instruction. I had a wonderful time learning about the other ladies and seeing their unique projects. We talked about so many subjects and the time flew. So I signed up for a month of classes and have 3 projects, all small and easy but with beautiful yarn that inspires me to create.

Unlike the scrapbook store, there were no treats to tempt me! Now I only have one problem, spending too much on yarn and the cost of the class. It is better than spending money on the wine tasting parties and sometimes leaving with wine for home. I enjoyed the conversation and getting together with some teaching friends, but I wasn't able to handle the temptation.

I doubt that I can count the knitting as fitness minutes, so I really need to get in my exercise tonight before I begin. emoticon emoticon

Sounds like fun. I tried knitting last year...our Pastor's wife taught me and we have a prayer shawl ministry at church but I just couldn't get into it. I kept 'dropping' stitches if that's what you call it. I love seeing the finished projects, though and you are right....there are so many beautiful yarns out there.

Glad you found a new hobby to enjoy! I am not "crafty" at all! LOL I can do crosswords or suduko, but usually I am so busy reading work and home email, after I get home from work, that I don't have time for anything else besides exercise and time with hubby!

What a great choice for you. I understand the temptation of the beautiful yarn. It is tough to get out of a store without new beauties. Just remember it is cheaper than therapy.

Congrats on finding a hobby you love and that keeps your hands busy. I cross-stitch and crochet. My cross-stitch store does a 'stitch-in' where you go and stitch for 4 hours on a saturday night. I love it. Last time I packed my own fruit so I didn't have to be tempted by the snacks in the store.

Sounds like fun, and like others when my hands and mind are busy with a project, I'm not snacking! emoticon

That's great, knitting and crochet is fun.
I never eat while doing those crafts because I'm scared I'll get the yarn dirty
