my older beagle

Thursday, June 02, 2011

we have 2 beagles ruffy is 6 sadie she will be 2 in august ok well ruffys always been chubby and since sadie came along he been more outgoing more vocal actin like apuppy again runs and plays well I do have a few worries he wobbles a little and Im afraid one day he wont be able to go for walks.
sadie loves to run like crazy ( blue tick beagle VERY VERY hyper and active lol ) play with the ball I throw it she gets it we do that for a while lol then she'll get in this mood and she'll go all crazy and run in circles for a good 10 min haha
ruffy doesnt like to play as fast as she does.
he runs with her they play together he likes to play with his ball I guess what my worri is is him getting older; I wanna keep him as active and healthy as I can for as long as I can I dont want him ever ( or her) ever getting any diseases or anything want them both to stay healthy and live long.
is wobbling normal for older dogs??
hes overweight but I cant help that we walk them 40 min to an hour everyday ( when its not too hot out) and they play in the yard with their tennis balls for a good while
no table food or anything the vet last year he weighed the same as always 40-41 never goes any lower but he does lose inches.. thats good right??
are my worries valid?? Am I just being a hypochondriac???

Completely valid worries, I'm the same with my pups, I think if he gets good excerise on a daily basis and the vet says all is good, then I wouldn't worry much. I would ask about the wobble though, just to be safe

Is Ruffy on meds at all? I ask because my 4 year old JRT is now on seizure meds, and has put on a bit of weight and slowed down a lot. Our vet says his gain could be related to the meds, so we just need to keep an eye on it.
