Challenge 8: Check up and think about what the challenge has helped me to achieve.
Goal l. Reverse weight gain and aging- A couple of exciting things have happened toward this goal. My weight has continued to go down 1 to 2 pounds per week. I am now at 175, a five year low for me, I am doing sit ups on my own and actually looking forward to exercise. Yesterday was a 4 hour marathon... 3 hour walking tour and 1 hour of strength training and I was exhausted but slept like a baby. I feel GREAT today. I have also finished my first health goal to read Bob Greene's book "20 Years Younger." It was a very good book and now I need to go back and take out the important advise and try to incorporate it into my life.
Goal 2. Get Organized. I have always been a great day planner and in that respect I remain about the same. The actual application however still remains an issue. I knock out the things on my list that are must but, the others like cleaning and organizing household and personal things are still undone. I need to assign them a higher priority and I will probably do them without thinking about it. So, in this category I need to relook at my priorities.
Goal 3. Contact Family and Friends regularly: I have talked with my son more but the rest of my family still remain on an email only basis. A lot of this stems from the fact I am 15 hours ahead of them and when I am up they are asleep ...except my son who works nights and is thus able to chat with me more often.
Push Goal... A happy healthy me living a healthy life when I retire ... toward this goal I have researched retirement locations in Asia, specifically the Philippines and mapped out serveral places I want to visit when I get there in July. I have also looked at setting my finances in order so I will be able to buy if I find the right place. Finally, I have registered for a course on how to make a living while living overseas that is quite good. This will be important as I will need to supplement my retirement pay if I want to live a decent life and not be dependent on my children. Teaching on the International Circuit usually ends at 60, a day not to far away for me.
A Great Positive: I can do sit ups again. It has been years and I am so excited as this, more than weight loss, tells me I have turned a corner and am headed back toward a healthy life.
I am Grateful for all of the support I am getting on this journey, especially from Sparkgirl 32. I have never been this focused or successful at loosing and staying focused and I have been a member here for years. If I am doing so good after one week, imagine where I will be by the end of the month. I am excited.
I have decided to stay focused and keep implementing all of the challenge strategies in my life going forward. They say 21 days makes a habit so that is my new goal.
Challenge Day 9:
Reflect on Competition. Well, competition is me though I am not one of the aggressive climb over everyone type of people. I was taught by my father to be the best I can be and if it is something I can't be the best at ... yield to the best and praise and honor them for their achievements. Therefore, my number one competition has always been me. I strive to be the best I can be and I challenge myself continually. I like to think I have been successful in most of my endeavors, but success means I have done the best I could... I need not be number one.
When I was younger I was very much a solo runner. It was all about me. The best in school. The best in sports, the best at whatever I did. If I wasn't the best, I quit. Over the years I have become a team player striving to be part of the best team possible... now, as I approach retirement my focus has turned to my students. I am proud to say I just mentored a group of students (My English Students) who just won best English team and best all around team in a National Competition. My feelsngs about their victory are ecstatic, more exciting than those I felt when I earned my own personal honors but, this is what the aging (growing up) process is really all about.
Now, the day begins and I am off to work.
