Here I am in Texas (outside Fort Worth). It is super hot!!!! and windy!! That makes it a hot wind!
I'm here visiting my grandson and enjoying every minute I'm with him. He and his sister are wearing me out. It's been a long time since I've spent the day with a 4-year old (grandson) and a 2-year old (his sister). Today I need to do some shopping for my grandson's birthday which he told me is in 6 days. Yesterday he took me shopping so I could make a list of the things he wants. I have 4 pages and we only visited 2 stores. He told me I should buy 16 items when I said maybe only 4 or 5. LOL
Every morning I try to get a workout in before my daily activities with my grandson and his family. I arrived a few days ago and thought there is no way I can deal with this heat (95 degrees) so I should stick with the workout room in the hotel. There is a treadmill, eliptical and exercise bike. Plus they have weights. Not bad. You can even turn on the TV to watch something while using the machines. I also purchased a bathing suit so I could use the pool and jacuzzi. The first night I arrived I used everything since I needed to get moving after flying for 3 hours. The next day I did the treadmill, then used my band which I packed in my suitcase. By the third day, I was bored with the treadmill and decided to get up early (so I thought) to go outside and walk. Even at 9am it is hot. I tried to make myself get up earlier so the heat wouldn't be so bad but then I thought "wait I'm on vacation" plus I'm not convinced it would be cooler.
My hotel is located in an area with 3 others and while each has a separate parking lot they connect via an access road in the rear. There are also about 6 restaurants located in this area. Then accross the road is a Lowe's.
So, on my first day trying to brave the Texas heat I decided to make a "sort of" loop of the parking lots so I didn't have to cross the main roadway since there is a lot of traffic and no sidewalks. It worked out pretty good walking the front and rear parking lots of each restaurant and then heading across to loop Lowe's before doing each of the hotels. I ended up walking 2 miles in 40 mins. Not bad considering the heat.
Today, I was able to do this walk plus return to the hotel gym to finish with a run on the treadmill. I'm liking this even if the heat is still a challenge.
Did I mention that my grandson's great-grandmother (GGMA as he calls her) lives not far and I could walk there if it wasn't so hot? I really want to try this since part of it would be a hill. Maybe, maybe.
