I wouldn't have never thought that I would be a runner

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

As I sit here thinking about how much I enjoy running, my mind goes back to less than a year ago when I registered for my first 5K. I was so scared and excited at the same time. I read every post I could about running and preparing for your first 5K. I knew what to eat the night before a race, the morning of a race and, after the race. I read that I'm to take it slow as I start. Don't get too excited and start running full force with the crowd. So I purposely started off with a slow jog. My mind kept telling me, "you can do this", "keep it up", "don't stop", "you'll doing good", "you've done 1 mile", "you've made it to 2 miles", "You've reached the 3 mile mark, and you'll almost finished". I remember so well how tired I was when I finished my first race and I can remember so well how good I felt when I finished. I was on fire. I purposed then to run a race every month. I'm proud to say that even though I didn't run a race every month that I've ran in 3-5ks and 2-10ks in less than a year's time. And have 2 other races scheduled this week. I can truly say tht I am a runner, and I love it.

What an accomplishment! Reading your blog made me reflect back on my first 5K just a few weeks ago. Doing all the same steps that you did prior to your race, brought a smile to my face. And yes, Its true the bug hits you and you're ready to run another one in no time. You're doing a great thing! You are a runner!

Congrats! I am training for a 10k. I have done (3) 5k races this past year and scheduled to do one on Saturday that will make 4 but I am so nervous about doing a 10k. Any advice?
