Workout Name: Martial Fusion Slammin' Body
Instructor: Sensei Guillermo Gomez
Type: Cardio Kickboxing
Length: 42 minutes
Martial Fusion Slammin' Body is a cardio kickboxing workout led by Sensei Guillermo Gomez. After a short warmup, you perform eight kickboxing combinations (on each side). For each combination, the moves are broken down slowly for 4 reps and then you perform them faster for 8 reps. In between each combo, you do a light jump rope for a few seconds. The combinations consist mostly of punches but there are a few that include knees and kicks. After the combinations, there is a bonus cardio where you do one combination on each side and is taught more slowly and add-on style. The workout concludes with a cool down/stretch.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this workout but as a rule, I pretty much love any kickboxing workout. Or any workout that combines punches and kicks. This one was no exception. At first, it seemed a little less intense - especially with the slow breakdowns - but I did find my heart rate getting up there. It is the same with any workout - you get what you put into it and you can even make it more intense by adding weighted gloves. I found Guillermo cued pretty well for the most part. By doing the 4 slow reps of each combination, you catch on pretty fast. He doesn't offer much instruction on punches or kicks so you should already be familiar with the moves before doing this workout.
I think this workout is great if you like straight-forward kickboxing moves and/or are looking for one that is low impact. There was no dread factor for me either - the time went by fast and I felt I had a great workout without being completely drained afterwards. My only complaint is that I would have liked more kicks to be included. This one is definitely a keeper for me.
