It should have been called Come torture yourself in the Sun!! LOL Cause that is EXACTLY what I did!! There won't be VERY much to say about this "race" because it was ALL HILLS and I mean ALL HILLS! So there is not much to say about the pain (good pain), the burning, the agony, the torture, the thoughts of stupidity, and what the heck did I get myself into thoughts, that an all hill FIRST 10k event will bring you!
So be warmed ahead of time this will be picture HEAVY, and that the pictures DO NOT do the hills (or myself for that matter) any justice because when I took the pictures I was in my Van driving and my van is WAY off the ground. Plus there was NO WAY I was getting out to stand on those hills and torture myself ANY MORE THAN I ALREADY DID!!
I started out the morning with ABSOLUTELY no sleep whatsoever. The fact that even if I did fall asleep I would just have to wake in about 2 hours anyways and the NERVES..ya no way did I get sleep. :)
I woke and started to get ready. Boy my nerves!!!
This was taken because I was bouncing around and dancing. This was my nervous/excited dance! :) I know I know totally awesome right? haha

THIS was my e-bee-jibber face! LOL don't ask I was saying it all morning. Combo of nerves, excitement, fear, and wanting to vomit and poop my pants haha SORRY!
When I ran my FIRST 5K in January I told the guy whom I picked my packet from that it would be my 1rst. He asked what races are you running next? I had mentioned some others and then THIS 10k, and he said AH! That is running up Sunrise mountains, It's all HILLS! I said WOW yikes and giggled. I had never gave it thought. Then past week I was thinking about it...what if he is right?..Nah can't be THAT bad. Uhoh WHAT IF? WHY DID I NOT BELIEVE HIM!!!??? lol
I turned on the street where it was being held (where we started) and my eyes got HUGE
Are you KIDDING?..No like seriously Do I have to run that? Man I hope not! I told my mother and roommate If I have to run that I am in TROUBLE!
I got there 45 mins early which just gives the screaming in my mind more time to freak me out and make me sooo much more nervous. While I was waiting I decided to ask a women if she had run THIS before?..She told me yes and started to explain just how the route is!!..WHAT?! lol I turned to my mother, children, and roommate and said uh ya we can go home now! (I was j/k'ing though!) She talked about rolling hills, steep hills, and just NEVER ENDING HILLS...boy was she right!

I took it slow and steady while running. Which is so totally awesome and good. I was like who cares about everyone else...your in trouble anyways lol j/k I felt it automatically..the hills. My legs were questioning and starting to tear up asking me why are you being mean to us? I huffed and puffed (ok maybe not really who knows though) and my brain was screaming with the ouchies this burns my legs stuff. I kept on keeping on and put one foot in front of the other.
I ended up having to walk TWICE which I am TOTALLY BUMMED about at Mile 3 and 3.5. Mile 3 was the steepest hill right before the turn around. I had already run a million hills...no exaggeration and thought to myself it's ok WALK if you don't you will not make it! So I did just that I walked when I got HALF WAY up that hill for no MORE than 30 seconds IF THAT and then started to run again as I got ready to run down THAT hill (man no matter what way we turned it was ALWAYS up hill but this was ONE downhill I enjoyed!). 1/2 mile later there was the ONE more steep hill I had to get UP before it was ALMOST down with hills I started running up and finally said FORGET THIS WALK!!! lol so I did for I'd say 15 seconds maybe? Then from there on I ran the rest. Here are the hills pictures (remember what I said above about no justice in pictures..)

As always I was coming up to the finish (less than a mile away) and all I kept saying was start running little faster...NO way can I run faster...its ok babygirl just stay the way you are and cross finish...I want to run faster...I can't run any faster I AM SOOO drained....
Then.... my EXACT thoughts... HOLY CRAP what are my legs doing!!!??? WHOA WHOA what? WAIT WWHHHAATTT??
Seriously. My legs have a min d of their own. No joke. I wanted to finish strong and I told myself I had no energy I just seriously could NOT run faster then out of nowhere I SPRINTED so unbelievably fast across that finish line!
I had a goal of finishing in NO MORE then 1:12:00. I finished in 1:09:20. So I met my goal. :-D WHOO HOO!! I placed 103 overall, and 9/12 in my age division. I ALSO won $25 for new pair a shoes...and THANK GOD. I said this past Wednesday that I seriously needed new shoes cause I wore my old ones out and they hurt to run in. Perfect timing.
I took the pictures while in the van and because the hills were so steep I took my foot off the gas and the van started rolling BACKWARDS...it was like a roller coaster going UP the hills in the van and a weird feeling going backwards..YIKES! :)
It was a AWESOME experience. A brutal one for sure!! ;) Though I told myself I was INSANE for doing it and you would NEVER catch me doing it again, AS I was running it I thought... "I need to come back up here and train!" For the fact that if I did it would eventually be NOTHING to me ;) Man I MUST be nuts huh?
Now only 3 more weeks til my NEXT 10K....
