Long term Alternate Day Diet/JUDDD

This is a very accurate blog about what happens long term on JUDDD. Dr Johnson's study was short term and his site is no longer available as it was before. Once you allow yourself to go off plan for extended periods, when you go back on you don't lose as quickly or as easily as before. I'm thinking that's where I'm at. I have tried everything and everyway that I know to start losing again and there's no fooling this body of mine. Each day that I try to bring up my calorie count even if below 1200, I gain. Very extreme 250 calorie down days do not let me lose as much as it used to. I used to be able to drop 3-4 lbs after a very low DD or water fast.

  I started JUDDD in October, and have lost 25 pounds so far. I had mild incontinence, probably due to pre-meno, and arthritis in both knees. Both those problems are *gone* and I give the JUDDD WOE the credit! I eat according to the calculator for both UDs and DDs and, though I did lose faster in the beginning, I plan on continuing losing this way until I reach my goal, then maintaining using it. I have really found lots of liberation from guilt stemming from eating and I have felt the healing from the inside that comes with JUDDD! emoticon

I lost 60 lbs on this when I was 68 years old. So don't worry about that. The up day should not be 2000 calories because although the calculator says that number, it is only used to determine the calories for the down day. The correct way to do the up day is to only eat until satisfied (not full) Eat correct size portions and try to stay away from sugars. At the end of the meal you should feel like you still want to eat more but you wait and that feeling passes. We are trying to learn to eat proper portion sizes along with less calories. Eating too many calories is what got me where I am. I've had some life problems and have allowed myself to regain weight after I got depressed. My up days were 1200-1400 calories. I wish you much luck..His site is back up now.

  I am new to Juddd and really need to shed 30 pounds. I am 64 and worry that my age will make it much harder. I have done Atkins in the past with some success but I just can't face that 2 week induction period so I hope this helps. I am on my first DD today and have to be at 423 cals 2019 on up days. I need all the help I can get. emoticon

    Buglet do you possibly have a thyroid condition? Maybe it's time to try a new way of eating. My weight stuck for so long and doing the plate method the new thing I am trying.

    The plan actually has been very useful for some people long term. I noticed that in the post on amazon the person had cut his/her calories by 50% overall - which is more than Dr. Johnson aimed for. I believe he aimed for cutting about 35% overall.

Also many of the people who use it long term modify the DD to a maintenance level with higher calories on the DD. Dr. Johnson has maintained his 35 pound weight loss with this long term. I believe he must be under 25 BMI - but he is not lean.

Cutting out too many calories on both the UD and the DD turn it into a LCD or even a VLCD - which is an entirely different animal.

    I think musingforces is right that you loss until you get to the weight that is right for you and then can keep it at that point. Earlene was on maintenance for over a year before she stopped coming here. It can work for you especially if you think of it as a way to stay healthy.

    Good blog Bug...so do you have to eat more and gain weight to get your metabolism working again?
I have tried ADDing since having Jonas and your right I was not loosing weight like I had before : S If I didn't become pregnant I might of not of seen this but I did and gained weight and it came on QUICK!!! I think our bodies changed our set weight as well and that is why it's harder to loose. emoticon
