1st Goal Accomplished

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Since I have decided to get out from in front of my computer and start getting reconditioned for running, I started out with my first goal in mind: to be able to run a full mile without stopping. Keep in mind, it has been about ten years since I have done any kind of running (when I was in the military).

This afternoon, I loaded the girls up in the truck with their bikes and headed to the high school to get a little track time in even though today's PT is actually muscle failure and not cardio. I set my music up on my iPod and set up my pedometer to begin once I was done stretching. I am like a race horse when I first start out - I'm ready to burn the jets right off the bat so I have to pull on the reigns a bit to slow myself down or I will never make it to the end. Twelve minutes later, I was finished with my first mile at a continuous run.

I walked a bit and drank a little water to cool down and boy did I feel like hurling. Thank goodness I did NOT eat before I went. And I have to say, twelve minutes is not bad for the first run in ten years. But it's very slow compared to my six minute miles years ago. But I am going to keep pushing and reach each goal, one by one.

That 12 minute mile is still fantastic! With consistency, you'll be amazed at how quickly your body adapts and how much faster you become. Great job pushing yourself today!
