Can you imagine anyone being happy it is raining today.

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Today we had rain, so what else is new. Today we are glad to see rain. It might save us some money and my DH some hard feelings.

Yesterday DH was really busy in the yard in the morning, we knew we would be out all day. While he was in the yard he decided to set up a siphon from the in-ground pool to the street to lower the water because we are forecast rain all week off and on.

We went to our play and then out to eat. We hung out at the restaurant and stopped for some bananas on the way home. By the time we got home it was dark.
I put a chicken in the crock pot overnight and this morning I took it out to cool it so I can skim off all of the fat. I proceeded to remove skin from the bird and any other refuse because I like to feed the crows in the back yard. I got all of the crow food together and went to the back yard to throw it down.

I looked at the pool cover and it was about 2 feet down. My immediate thought was we had a ruptured pipe under ground. This pool was dug in 1976 and so it is 35 years old. We keep saying we will fill it in but we never have had a big enough issue to do just that. Our grandkids and neighbours use it but it is way too cold for me these days.

I came inside and told DH and I saw he had a shocked look on his face, he had just realised he forgot to remove the siphon last night so it was going all afternoon and through the night.

These days all of our water is metered so to fill it back to the correct level will take a lot of water and a lot of money. Now as the rain pours, we have mixed emotions. We want it to stop so the basement stays dry but we need it to rain to refill the pool.

Poor DH is mortified he did this but I told him we will throw in some trout and go fishing in it instead, unfortunately he has momentarily lost his sense of humour.

Tonight happily, he is over it.
We shall overcome this small set back and wait to see what mother Nature throws at us.
No matter what, it is a drop in a bucket compared to the many flooded areas in the south and in the mountain valleys here in New England.

Weekend is over, it was a good and busy weekend.

Now we are looking ahead to the appointments for the week. ------and the beat goes on. emoticon

It's supposed to rain all week so your pool should be nice and full before long. My pond over flows when it rains like this. My BF forgot to put holes in the liner for my new planter so now it is full of water, I'll have to start from scratch when it stops raining. Oh well, life goes on.

I agree with whoever said you have a Mixed Blessing. The rain has moved out of our area and on it's way East so tell DH he has some hope to hang on to.

If it rains in Maine like it did in Missouri yesterday, there will be no problem filling the pool up.

Do have a Marvelous Monday.

Sunny

Oops! I am sure the rain will fill it up! Never mind! Adrian had an accident last week when he was putting the tomato plants out. A stick which was holding up the one he was carrying went through a pain in the greenhouse. We won't have to take them in and out after next week as the frosts should have gone by then. I have lots of blogs and photos to put on, but just not enough time with gardening at the moment. Have had a virus since Friday, so I havn't been doing any, just walking and sleeping. Feeling better today, so will probably get back to it later. Have started strength training again and it feels good! Have a good week! Hope your appointments go well!

Hi Pat, your Saturday sounds fantastic, a marvelous day. Sunday had a little surprise for you. Indeed it is not a choice anyone would consider very well.

I think your pool must be very large, the grand kids and neighbours love to share time and swimming with you. I hope the rain helps with the pool...but not enough to flood your basement.

Have a good week. Di emoticon emoticon

We've done that to our pool also, so your DH is not alone, and yes we felt embarrassed. We've also overfilled it when we forgot the faucet on. We now put a note on the fridge with the pool action we are doing and the time we started it. We've not done it since. When we go away and our son takes care of the pool we have a rule that he has to put his car keys on the faucet if he turns it on to fill it. That way he can't leave and forget it is still on. Water is a big deal here as you know. Our solar cover does heat it up to about 88 during the summer and that is just warm enough to walk right into but not so warm you feel like your in the bath tub.

Sorry about the pool-annoying stuff happens. Hope the rain is cooperative...

Sleep well, and have a good week!!
