Tuesday, May 10, 2011

I've read articles about the dangers of sitting too much quite a bit lately. This piece has some great graphics.

Oh, my. I will definitely take several of the author's suggestions (especially sitting at a 135 degree angle).

Wow what an article!!!! Welllll one thing is for sure~over the past year, after my accident, and recovery still in progress, I bet I've cut down on the number of years I will have to pay bills in my life time~~~ LOL~~~BAD JOKE! I KNOW, HOWEVER YOU DO KNOW ME WELL ENOUGH to realize I will try with all my might to find the positive even in a negative situation(out of my control). emoticon emoticon

Truly though this was incredible~and a wonderful eye opener for those who just choose to be still, or have a career that keeps their mind/hands working, but their body still all day long~week after week, year in and out. This has me in the mindset to wear out the rubber tips on my four prong cane CONSTANTLY NOW! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

That is a great article! I have a job where I stand and walk stairs but it is a good reminder for me anyway!

    Great article Terry!
I try very hard to keep moving throughout my work day (as I sit in front of a computer, too) and am glad to hear that the slightest bit of movement is beneficial.
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for sharing that link. I recently hung a shelf next to my desk to create a "standing desk." I figured I'd switch back and forth throughout the day and at least get in *some* standing time. In reality, I tend to stand much more. I love being able to move around, dance, stretch or whatever while I'm working. The only problems I've found are that my back, knees and one wrist hurt after standing for awhile. I'm pretty sure that all of those have to do with poor ergonomics on my part.

I'm hoping that the standing does something to stimulate my weight loss, but alas, no results there yet! Still, if you can manage some sort of simple set up that will let you stand at least part of the day, do it. It does feel better.

Scary stuff for cubicle slaves like me! Makes me happy that I do 10min of stairclimbing in my lunch hour - gets my muscles tingling for half the afternoon if I go hard enough! I will try to get up more often (drinking LOTS of water helps with that!). And I just adjusted my chair to lean back further... We'll see how that goes!
