Sleep Factor.... go figure.

Monday, May 09, 2011

I have been on two teams, both with challenges on them since January. I really enjoy reading about what other people are doing and enjoy the friends I have made on spark people. One of the teams, the San Antonio one has an EPIC challenge. Unfortunately, I was out of town for a day or two and life just got crazy and I forgot to sign up for May BUT, One of our leaders sent out information about sleep and how you need sleep to loose weight.

I have to admit, I really didn't think it was an issue, but I found out by accident. The last week of April I was out of town for a day and two nights. I was at a wonderful hotel in Houston for a conference. I was very busy, but somehow I managed to get 7 hours of sleep 4 nights in a row. I was careful about my eating, but did not get a chance to workout. I was sure that I would have gained that week. But a funny thing happened, I lost weight, the only thing different was the sleep! So, now I am going to try to sleep longer during the night, and go to bed earlier.

I have begun to get really tired on my journey as I keep gaining and losing the same 2 pounds. Perhaps increasing my sleep will help. It's hard though, my internal clock is set to about 5 to 6 hours a night. After that I cannot sleep. I get up and read, work, do laundry or clean. I would never have thought that sleeping would make a difference.

I read an article on SP yesterday that said sleep is one of the factors that affect weight loss. I think it has to do with stress-that our bodies are stressed when tired and when stress the weight doesn't come off. Who knew? Glad that you are seeing results!

Wow, I think i'm going to have to give this a try. I am feeling so tired this morning and i was expecting to see a loss because i worked my butt off this past week and weekend but didn't see what i thought I would. Maybe it's because I didn't give myself enough rest? I shall have to test myself and see what happens. Thanks for the blog and i hope that you are doing well. :)

Sleep DOES make a difference. I gained during the last few months of not sleeping and having anxiety and worry. I've been sleeping more the last couple of days and I do know that my energy level is up and am anticipating loss this week. I'm sorry you missed the sign up but we are looking forward to seeing you back in next month! Great job!
