What I have been waiting for!

Sunday, May 08, 2011

“The season” has finally started. I did my shopping this weekend –
- A few different kinds of tomatoes
- Leaf lettuce
- Cucumbers
- Swiss Chard
- Zucchini
- everbearing strawberries
- a couple kinds of bell peppers
- snap dragons, lupine and monks hood
My neighbor gave me some broccoli, and my husband put in a request for a couple of cabbages.

I started some spinach, cilantro, and parsley from seed. We’ll see how that works out. Next week I’ll try starting some squashes and some other pepper seeds I saved from last year and forgot about. I’m also thinking about testing out some beets somewhere. That might be a bit much though.

There are some other things I am hoping to get done in the yard before the summer is in full swing that are all about increasing the ease of yard maintenance and reducing mowing.

This has been the activity I have been waiting for since April started. I didn’t really get my April fix this year because of rain, so I am all excited about being able to really dive into the joys of gardening and healthy home/local grown produce! I'm thinking there may be some gazpacho happening in there somewhere; and some tabbouleh. OH YEAH!!

How did your garden do? It sounds so wonderful, all the healthy plants. I got only tomatoes and chives and lettuce. The deer ate everything else. But it all went to a good cause. LOL. kim

I'm so happy for you, Lee! I know I've been waiting to start a garden too. My friend has just bought a house for the Glass Slipper Ministries and she wants me to grow flowers there that we can take to convalescent homes when they are ready, but she hasn't been able to get the key to me yet. I'm afraid it will be too late in the season soon. I also have never grown flowers before, so we'll have to wait and see how that goes:)
