Dear Doctor... plus... THE dress!!

Saturday, May 07, 2011

I went to the allergist this week (hated the scale.. ive been in a holding pattern the last two weeks). He looked at my medications, and his first comment was "you are on a lot of medications". I then said "no, i'm not really... most of those are vitamins". I am on a lot of medications for asthma, which is hereditary and I've had since I was 2. I treat my fibromyalgia with just magnesium and potassium supplements... its not as good as I'd like, but, Lyrica stopped working for me and theres just not a lot out there for fibromyalgia. I take a multivitamin, vitamin C, and an calcium supplement. I do not use these as my main source of nutrition of course, but there have been some preliminary studies showing that fibromyalgia patients tend to have a vitamin deficiency, and I have noticed that some of my symptoms are lessened if I take supplements.

He also saw my metformin rx and said "how have your blood sugars been?" My first thought was "you are my ALLERGIST... why do you care?". But I answered him, "I don't have diabetes. My blood sugars are always great. My fasting blood sugars are always between 80 and 90." I also have perfect cholesterol and blood pressure. attention docs... not ALL fat people have diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol! And not every medical concern is caused by my weight either. Last year, when I had horrendous stomach pains, I had a doctor tell me I just needed to lose weight. Turns out, my gallbladder has STOPPED WORKING and meanwhile he's tell me to suck it up and go on the atkins diet. I'm on metformin for PCOS, not for anything related to blood sugar.

NOW... on to the dress. I went wedding dress shopping, and was SHOCKED when a size 26 dress ZIPPED UP!!! It will look better when I lose more weight, but it is GORGEOUS!!!

Its a horrible unflattering angle plus im wearing jeans underneath, so here is the link to it:

The doctor who told me to do Atkins was NUTS... i have no probs with carbs or anything, everything in moderation. Plus, if I had followed that, I would have been in even more pain. The gallbladder episode was crazy... 3 weeks from my first attack I was on the operating table having emergency surgery. It just flat out stopped working... my liver was pumping more and more bile into it but it couldnt push it out, so it was just expanding and expanding. Atkins could have caused it to burst. What a nutjob. Thankfully, I'm pushy, and I suspected gallbladder issues, and I demanded he refer me for a HIDA scan, where I had an ejection fraction of only 3%. anything lower than 40% and they have you get surgery.

The dress is going to be highly forgiving of weight loss, and my mom is great at sewing so we are just going to alter it as necessary.

You tell 'em! I definitely consider myself one of the luckiest folks to have a great primary physician... always supportive, even as those pounds crept back on. Thankfully, he's never once encouraged anything so radical as Atkins (yet, hubby keeps going on/off that one, and it really messes with my sodium intake if I try to eat any meals with him on weekends). I can usually manage fine with carbs, protein, fat and calories with him, just sodium... he needs more, I need less.

Most importantly, emoticon with the dress!!!!
