Starting the Spring Challenge - What Will be Different This Time?

Saturday, May 07, 2011

Today starts the Spring Challenge - I am on the A Team. I've done a number of these 5% weight loss challenges and thoroughly enjoy them. I've met great people on the teams, and enjoy having an area of focus each week. But if I'm honest with myself, I have not achieved the 5% weight loss once, and am still basically hovering around the same 5 pounds being lost/gained, over and over and over.

So what am I thinking about doing differently this time?

1) Exercise. I know myself well enough to know that this is critical for me. I work a lot - 60 - 70 hours a week - but I need to find a way to fit this in.

2) Visualize. When I'm having an exceptionally stressful work week like the last two weeks, I eat everything in sight. I want to create the discipline to pause and ask if it's worth it before I eat it. Is it worth it to skip exercise. In the context of how I want to feel on Memorial Day, on July 4th, and with all the incredible fresh veggies available in the spring (and that we are trying to grow in our container garden).

3) Learn. Ask myself at the end of each day how I did. Where could I have made better choices? Am I happy with the decisions I made?

Here's to a great Spring Challenge!

You have a great plan! I am in the challenge as well, and this is my first one. If I am going to meet the 5%, I will have to step up my game!

OMG! Your wrote my blog for me!!!! : )

I'm with you. There just never seems to be enough time to get anything done that I want to do. My exercise secret lately has been my love of music. I have a treadmill and an ipod and when I am on the treadmill I can listen to any music I want and that is just the most amazing thing to me. I am the sole music person in my houseful of tv people. It seems I never get a chance to fill the house with music because the stereo is always blaring the television. My treadmill has become my way of getting me time and recharge time. Hopefully you can find a way to make that work for you too.

At any rate, call on me when you are stressed! I am either getting there, am there or been there and will be happy to be either a shoulder to lean on or a gentle push back on track -- your choice.

Jenny

I'm on my second 5% Challenge, and I consider the first one a warm-up. We'll both do great this time around!
