Children's Parade (and the Heartthrob Kid)
Friday, May 06, 2011
Today is the Children's Parade - I've been watching on TV, since something has made my stomach very queasy today. Plus DH and I are planning a summer trip while we watch the parade.
Our steel pan band was in the parade - most schools have steel bands, and our trolley went by full of kids, a bunch of whom are in my classes. Mr. Principal was on TV, as well as two music teachers. (Old photos below)
The Traditional Indians are always the last troupe in the parades, both the Children's and the Adult Parades. (That's the name of the troupe - they are not Native Americans, they are African-Caribbeans, but that's the name they've taken. I have no clue why.) There was one kid who looked familiar - not the face as much as the gestures, despite the fact that I was looking at him on TV and from a distance - and sure enough, at one closeup, I recognized my Heartthrob Kid - the kid full of charisma, the girls all want to be his girlfriend, the boys all want to be him. He's cute, bright, polite, funny - and I enjoy having him in class. So on Monday I'll tell him I saw him on TV - as well as the steel pan students.
