Finding my way back

Friday, May 06, 2011

So much has happened with the beginning of this year. I have tried to get back on the program after being Vegetarian/Vegan.
My problem has been, and I am sure I am not the only one. Is I just can't afford the cost of the food necessary for me to stay with the clean eating.
I live in the desert, most all our food, well, all our food is trucked in, including fresh veges and fruit. So can you imagine the cost, probably twice as much as areas with farms to provide to the grocery stores. Rising gas prices, are also an added reason, to hike those prices. We have to go 80 miles to the nearest discount grocery store.
So you know what food is cheap! Yes the bad food is cheap. I shop at Walmart (not super) for a lot of my grocery items now, until things start to happen. I have been working on creating a garden bed (2) but this cost too. I need to fill it with my compost (purchased) not enough here to fill one they are both 4'8" x 9'4" So a lot to fill.
And our gas has been @ $4.00+ for sometime now.
I miss my program, and have been off the wagon, for awhile. I want to come back.
But things have to change cost wise, because my income isn't working with the price hikes.
I do manage to check in and spin for my Spark points. I can't wait, to start again. emoticon emoticon

When I lived too far away to afford fresh produce I bought frozen! It is as good if not better, as it has been snap frozen soon after picking. emoticon

Glad you are back and getting back with the program. Yes, the cost of food, gas, etc. has hit us hard, hasn't it! I buy most of everything at Walmart-best prices! Plus, my DH works there, so I get a discount too! That helps alot in this economy! Hang in there! emoticon

I try to look at the positive side that I can't buy as much, so I can't overeat as much!

All you can do is make the best choices you can with what is available to you. It sucks having to live within our means, but it doesn't mean you have to give up. You may have to be creative, but you can do it. I do most of my shopping at Walmart....sigh, but it is what it is and I do my best to make up for it elsewhere.

All we can do is make the best choices in our options. In a perfect world I have other options. Just the fact we make an effort about what we eats counts for something. For a long time I ate all sorts of crap...I needn't swing all the way to the ideal side for improvement. Costs will eventaully improve. Yesterday I looked at a pint of grape tomatoes for $4 and refused to take them. I will buy an entire plant for about the same amount, and will wind up with as much as I can eat. Until then, I will wait. Do your best! On a brighter note I was tickled to see those speculating in the commodities market on oil lose their butts yesterday when the price dropped almost ten percent!!!! Maybe if more experience some of these huge gambling losses they will stop driving up the prices. Demand has gone way down...the main reason the price is skyrocketing at this time is because of them.
