My New Toy

Friday, May 06, 2011

Wow, it has been ages since I blogged!! I am still here, just mostly tracking food/exercise minutes and reading message board threads that I am subscribed to. There doesn't seem to be enough time in the day for everything I want to do and I have been trying to limit my computer and cell phone time a little bit. Interestingly, my husband's phone dropped 6 stories at work yesterday and broke, so he is waiting for work to give him a new one. I told him it will be good for him to unplug for a little while. ;)

OK, so on to the title of this blog. I left Costco on Sunday with a brand new Vitamix. For those of you who do now know what it is, it looks like an ordinary blender but it is so much more. The thing actually COOKS soup in 5 minutes, juice with nothing left over to throw away, and even makes ice cream. It came with a huge recipe book. Well I sound like an infomercial. Sorry. Anyway...I had been eyeing it for a while and found out that an area Costco was going to have demonstrations there last week so I went to check it out. After we watched the guy make juice, soup, ice cream and a virgin margarita, we thought about it and my husband decided we should get it as an early Mother's Day present. All in all, I love it and am glad we got it even though it was a bit of sticker shock. I have been using it every day and am excited to try so many of the recipes! I figure it will be a good way to add veggies to the little one's diet too.

Do you have a Vitamix? If so, what is your favorite recipe?

P.S. Sorry for the sideways shot. I have no idea why, but when I e-mail a photo from my iPhone it turns out sideways even though the pic is taken the right way.

Yep, Vita-mix is really cool!!! Even my husband is starting to get into blending us up a mess of fruit, nuts, greens, healthy oils, protein powders etc. for breakfast every morning (we kinda take turns...). I've not tried making the soups with it - need to!!

I don't have one, but I just watched part of an infomercial (late night) for something called a Ninja blender...or something! It sounds similar to what you can do with yours -- which is extremely COOL! I like the idea of making your own baby food...and soups??!! You will get your money's worth, to be sure.

I hope you will do regular updates of your Vitamix creations...I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Have FUN! emoticon

    Looks like fun!
I do not have one, so I can't help you on any favorite recipes.
I can tell you, that right after you took the picture you must have tilted your phone. That would make it change orientation.

AGH!!! I'm so jealous. There are so many recipes I want to make with a Vitamix!!! Like raw tarts, raw vegan gluten-free piecrusts, and smoothies! Oh smoothies galore. Lucky girl, I can't wait to get one of my own, but they are so darn expensive.

I have heard fabulous things about the Vitamix but the price is keeping it out of reach for now. Check out yahoo groups vitamix enthusiasts or google Lynn Savage-I'll try to get you a link if you'd like.
