Things to consider

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

I have been really struggling with getting my head back into weightloss mode. Caitlin from www.healthytippingpoint.com recently posted that she and her hus were looking into buying a house. She listed her non-negotiables and her wants for her future house. It got me to thinking about my current situation, our move from a year ago. While we found a house to rent that we love, we are less than happy with the area. We should have come up with a list of non-negotiable for the area. Not just the job and the house.
I am unhappy that this area does not have the resources needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. If we were to move again I have come up with a list of things the area would have to have for me to be willing to move there.
1. Access to healthy, not overly processed foods. Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods would be ideal.
2. Access to a gym that is decently staffed. They gym would also have to offer classes like Zumba. A nice to have is a place that would offer pole dancing.
3. Easier access to activities such as dance and gymnastics for my children.
4. Family friendly activities - especially on rainy days.

I am sure I could come up with more, especially after I talk to my DH. We are unhappy here, but we don't want to move. Our jobs are going well.

I so understand what you are saying. I live in FL and want to take up running but really the road I live on is like a main hwy and not really a good place to run. There is a nice park that closes at 6 pm and I usually work til 7 so unaccessable unless on days off. there are a few gyms around but not really that close.
I was watching House Hunters and this couple lived in CA a mile from the beach. They were avid bike riders. They requested to stay in the area. It looked so beautiful. I was thinking how that would be so awesome to walk out your back/front door and be able to bike/walk/swim/beach volley ball. So when I do move again as well this is on my list as well.
Thanks for sharing. GL

I am sort of in the same situation, I don't believe my area has enough resources for a healthy lifestyle and having to travel 30 to 45 minutes to get to gym gets old fast. I would love to try the zumba classes they look fun on tv.
