Gym class was not fun for alot of us. I am so lucky - my daughters love it. Their gym teachers have a nice mix of games, challenge, and silliness that they both look foreward to it.
There's a new challenge in my kids' school - everyone gets an orange card to fill out - when they run laps around the track they write them down. Now, they have a very structured day, so most kids run are running laps during recess - which is precious. When they've run 25 laps (which equals 5 miles) they turn in their cards and get a new one. The class with the most cards turned in in the entire school gets to order in pizza for lunch - good motivation for school age kids.
What shocked me is that even my 7 year old is doing it. She ran 2 laps the other day during recess - and BELIEVE me she is not athletic the way her older sister is. She said she had to stop to take a breather a couple times, but then she got a "boost".
My kids eagerness to tackle this challenge has me running - and BELIEVE me I am not a runner. So during the month of May, I'm keeping track every time I run on the treadmill at the gym. 1.5 miles monday, 1 mile today. Chump change for some of you marathoners, but new territory for me.
