Running in the sunshine = Payday??

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

I always made it a habit to run early in the morning or later in the evening when it was dark out. I guess I was hiding from the world. Felt embarrassed that people would see things jiggle when I run? I never wanted to run in my neighborhood either for fear of running into someone that knows me.
Well this year…all that’s a changing!
I’m ready for my spotlight…Cue the sunshine! emoticon
Ahhh…feels so good running with the warm sun shining down on me!
Look at me world I no longer want to feel invisible…I want to feel invincible!
Is my body exactly where I want it to be? Nope
Are there still some jiggly areas? Yep
Do I care that my neighbors or the world see me run? Nope
Bring them on! I know some may jeer but most will cheer. They obviously know that I lost a lot of weight and I heard from a few neighbors that ppl thought I may have lost the weight with surgery. Well, duh…I really can’t blame them for possibly thinking that cause they never saw me exercise. I was like a ninja exerciser…I would duck behind trees to avoid people! Really! And this all hit me last night on my run home!
I didn’t want to go to the gym because it was so beautiful out but already logged my elliptical and kettlebell time so, I had my hubby drop me off at the gym and then I would run home after my workout! Finished ST, kettlebells and hopped on elliptical and panic started to set in…omg, it’s still going to be bright sunshiny when I’m done here. I am sweaty mess and ppl are going to be looking at me running. Haha…I know now that I write this out…it sounds like such a silly thing to worry about!
Well, my run home was awesome! Several cars beeped at me (cause they thought I was hot…not cause I was blocking the road haha) AND even though it may have been some creepy old perv…I still smiled!
And I have to comment on all the weird items I ran past last night…
•plastic chicken holding (I think) a baseball bat
•baby’s bib
•surgical mask
•dead bluejay (eeeewwww)
•VHS tape? Do ppl still watch those?
•Baby doll
•Decorated hard boiled easter egg
All these items were all in the same stretch near a train track. So what weird or interesting items have you seen while running?
As for my title…I also found $5.00 emoticon
So, my run in the sunshine was truly a payday for me!
I felt invincible when I arrived at home!
Do you want to feel invisible or invincible?

I always walk/jog in my neighborhood. They'll(the neighbors) be surprised soon when I prance out in my new shorts and tank. And for sure, the things you see. One day I saw a smashed froggie and that FB post got the most comments. To bad most people just drive in and never see what's in their own back yards. Have a great run!

Lucky day to find $5! Now you got extra motivation- as much as I hate my running form, I just don't allow my head to go to what people think- nope, not going there, you know?

Hope you take advantage of many more sunny days!

I too had to quit worrying about what the neighbors think. I used to have to have my hair just so, my make-up just so, etc. Now, I dress, put my contacts in, grab my Garmin - and off I go. I also "jiggle" plenty - but I am more proud of the exercise I do than worrying about what the neighbors think. Yeah, still sometimes kids by the school make fun of me, but I'd still like to see them keep up!
All I can say is GOOD FOR YOU!!

    You are wonderful!!!
I am 100% sure the cars honking at your "Hot little self" were not old pervs, but rather
Hot Young Italian Studs, behind the wheel of a Ferrari.
Keep running in the sun my friend, you should NEVER hide your awesomeness from the world.

I love this! I see dead birds, broken glass, beer bottles/cans, and the occasional roving gang of stray dogs.

I love your blog, once again.... I think you need to become a 'contributing writer' and get your own column in some woman's magazine... it would be a big hit!! I'm so proud of you! And you continue to inspire ME!! And woo-hoo for the $5!!! ha ha....

Can't wait until we can schedule a date for us to run together again... xoxo

Your reasons are totally why I run outside. The smells, the sights, the weather (good or bad). Its distracting also. When a certain part of the run may get hard or you feel a little tired there is always something new to look at or push toward. I love it! emoticon emoticon

One of my favorite parts of running outside is looking at the random items in the sand or on the street. Just a few days ago, I noticed that the pink paddle that was on the side of a driveway for 6 months was gone!

    Shine on!

I always get motivated & encouraged seeing people exercise & running is my fav exercise. I love to be around kids playing, sports fields, parks, anywhere there are active folks. I used to be concerned about neighbors seeing me too, but really just trust that you are inspiring someone by being visible! Shine girl Shine!

Awesome! I used to be the same way. I still mostly run in the very very early morning (5am-6am) but only due to my schedule. I have ran in full daylight now and it is so nice! I always search the ground when I'm running. I don't find many things too cool except once I did find a golf ball and brought it home to my kids :) Glad you had a great run!

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your Blog.

I don't recall anything interesting on my morning walks, however today I realized I sing OUT LOUD with my MP3 player. I shocked an older gentleman doing yard work, as I whizzed by singing. "Whip It" by Devo. (WHIP IT REAL GOOD!) emoticon

You are THE WOMAN!!! Great strides for you. (pun intended). Isn't it wonderful when we no longer care what other people think when they see us moving right along! I always figure that they, like me, get a twinge of guilt that it is ME moving, and not THEM!

    Perspective is everything!! emoticon

I enjoyed your Blog...i can identify a little with the 'hiding behind trees' i don't run..but i walk..and i used to do something similar..and only walk when it was getting dark...or very early in the day when most ppl are still asleep..or already gone to work..but NO MORE!! I proudly hold my head up high nowadays...and YES i am still 'jiggly' in places i'd rather not be..but OH WELL...all what counts is that we are out there doing something for our Health!
I am cheering you on Karen emoticon ..you are emoticon

You are literally running for your life... the healthy years to come!!!...Bugger what others think... who the hell are they in your life anyway???... They are not important!
It is only jealousy when the comments are negative... you are out having fun... & $5 bucks... well how can you compare that to sitting on your btm watching soapies with a bag of chips?

Go get them girl... show them how it is done!!!
Arriving home hot & sweaty.. well what a role model you are for your children!!! Who's more important.. the neighbours or your family??... (that is a dah question)... I know you love your family.. so keep healthy for you & them!!
Besides it is safer for you in the sunshine with your vit D.

I never cared much for what my neighbors thought. I'm pretty good with witty banter though, so any smart ass comments were usually met with a sharp retort. heh. What's surprising to me now is that some neighbors think all I do is workout. One neighbor dropped in and said "I'm not interrupting your workout, am I?" ... I was in my work clothes, so wtf?

Besides, jeer all you want, I'm outside and you're on the couch, so nyah!

As a recovering fat guy that can now run a decent time, I can honestly tell you that anyone out there kicking butt has my respect. I don't care what you look like. The people that annoy me out there are the ladies (sorry, it's always ladies) in their full workout gear walking at a snail's pace and talking on their cell phone. Sorry honey, if you can talk on the phone while you're doing it, it ain't exercise. To the rest of you out there, keep kicking butt!

Wow. Paid for running. I like that view point. And then we get paid in non-monetary ways, too that we forget about.

I need to remember that viewpoint, don't I?

    Have a wonderful day girlfriend.

    Ninja exerciser, lol.
I also started out running outside late at night after work, to avoid the Florida heat but also to avoid the judgment. Now? Not so much. I am making a point of finding awesome spots to run around town, and thanks to the courage of other non-supermodel/track star joggers/walkers around me, I feel a level of cameraderie with the people I pass by on the road.

Running under the stars is still an awesome feeling, but running in the sun and getting a little color at the same time boosts my mood a little more, makes time go faster, and feels a lot safer!

Congrats on the money, I have yet to find any. Jealous!
