lesson in Wisdom.....

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

The other day on TV a famous fitness person stated that walking on a tread mill when it is flat it is the same as walking down hill. So I'm out on my walk thinking about this "fact". Well I live where we have ups and downs, with a few flats thrown in and they aren't the same. In fact there is one down hill place that I would rather come up then go down as you use so many more muscles trying not to fall down it. So is flat really like going down hill???

Wisdom is using your head with everything you hear or read.

Hmmm.... I don't know. I figure if I am on the treadmill at all that that is a good thing whether flat on the treadmill equals going down hill outside of the gym.

For me the treadmill is harder than walking at the same pace around the block hills or no hills. emoticon

Downhills hurt my knees and when running, I feel it is easier to walk sometimes! I guess it makes a difference if it is a small slope, which is nice and easy, or an actual hill, which I think is hard. I DO agree that running on the dreadmill is 1000 times easier than running in the real world! Is that what she was referring to? Down or Up, hills are way more challenging and make us stronger, so keep climbing!

I make up for time on downhill when racing but I don't think it's easier than flat. Downhill requires me not to lose control of my stride and to be careful of how much force I my foot pushes forward in my running shoes because it can cause foot injuries not to mention toe jams or ingrown toe nails (ouch)... keep those toe nails trimmed short!

I have always felt going down hill is harder than going uphill. Look it now that I'm on the downhill side of aging I find that really hard.
