just 2 more weeks, just 2 more weeks...

Two. long. weeks. left! Funny how when you're "retiring" from something, the last few weeks of it seem to take sooooo long! I just want to clean up the mess left over from it, but can't until it's over. Can't wait to delete that particular repeating task on my calendar, and choose "delete all"! ;)
I'm talking about the midweek Children's Ministry, that I've been doing at our church for fifteen years. Well, and for almost 10 years before that! I've been the Coordinator/Person-in-Charge for most of those years. I love the organizing (and the kids!), but not really thrilled about being the one with the responsibility for everything. It works well when your helpers are enthusiastic contributors, but when they need to be inspired, I have trouble inspiring them.
The other thing is, I just don't know how to promote something, other than all the things we've done to promote it. These things worked in the past, but definitely are not working now. It has just come time to give this a rest, and maybe it will start up again at a future date, with new momentum (and a new Coordinator!) The first few years we had 30-40 kids, next few years 20-25, then 20... lately there's only been between 10-15 kids. Usually 10 or less.
This would not be depressing... because those few kids are important after all, and great kids, to boot! But because of the recent events at our church (having to let go of 3 staff), it IS depressing. First, the most enthusiastic leader suddenly was gone (a staff member's daughter). Her 3 kids were also "gone" at the same time, and they were such beautiful kids! The other children came out for a little while, but slowly some of them dropped out because they missed their friends. Then, we had snowstorms on the kids' Club nights THREE times!! Next, we had three more leaders quit the same day (for various reasons). *sigh* I'm determined to finish the year though... only 2 more weeks!!
This didn't have much to do with SP stuff, except that writing it kept me from looking for a snack! :)
