Another Scary 24 Hr's in Kansas-

Thursday, April 28, 2011

It lasted almost 48 hours this time. Winds, Watches and Warning of Tornadoes, Thunderstorms, driving rains- almost 10 inches and major damages with 14 deaths across two States at last counting. Many like last years floods have had to be relocated, even the MS Casinos are closing and may not open for 2 weeks! A first of this happening. One area of MS will probably no longer exist when the waters finally recede- it will simply be swept away this time. Homes lost forever, as many will be with this death blow to their struggling with the economy already- most couldn't afford Flood Insurance. So we were lucky and only damages is lots of soggy lawn with standing water up to our ankles, and a cracked wind-shield to my DH's car. An expense we sorely could have gone without. But the car is in one piece. I'm worn out from the stresses and long hours without sleep. We've eaten terribly wrong hours, having at times to wait until sirens stopped to fix food. And little exercise gotten in. On the good news, we got in a small pre-fab vegetable garden just the day that the Storms started. I feared the rains and wind would kill it all! Another expenditure we'd lose that we'd hope would help our food budget. Instead I've gotten some wonderful growth and already seeds have sprouted up! Now if the standing water recedes, we may be saved after all.

I pray that all of my Spark Friends are doing well and safe too.

We flew home last nite with tornado watches...and prayed the whole way. I am sorry to hear you are in such a state there.

I'm glad something good has come out of all of that. We are actually experiencing tornado watches and warnings here in Central Maryland also. Not typical for our area. I have heard this is going to be the record month for tornado activity. I'm glad you and your home are ok.

Good you don't have "much" damage! We've hardly had any rain this spring here in Wichita. The damage and scope of the storms last night in the south is unreal!

I live 30 minutes north of Kansas City, so I've seen all of this first hand on the news' stations. It's been a scary month. Over 600 tornadoes have touched down in country this month. Right now the eastern side of the country is getting hit hard, and I pray for all of those families.

I'm glad your family is safe and I hope that you guys stay strong and no more bad weather comes your way. This almost makes me wish it was winter again with snow.

SOOOO TOTALLY RIGHT THERE WITH YOU!!!!! Our garden hasnt been planted yet (THANK GOD) but many of my flowers took a heckofa beating today. Thankfully no appearant damage to anything that we have noticed so far. I saw on our news site that over 125 tornadoes touched down TODAY!

It was a really really hard day here for us too. Food and exercise seemed to be the furthest from our survival mode minds. I am so glad that you are ok tho....Tomorrow...I hope you will feel more normal. ((HUGS)) I for one, am looking forward to some SUNSHINE!
