Today was definitely a day of revelations. I woke up at 8am and looked out my window as the room filled with golden early morning sunlight. I felt well-rested and happy that I'd made it through Hell Week and was glad of having two days off before I begin the next revolution of the Turbo Fire Program on Monday.
First order of business was the weigh-in. I own a Healthometer Scale which measures/records BMI, Weight, Water, Body Fat %, etc. So shedding my clothes I hopped on the scale, looked down, and goggled at the results. I gained almost 2 pounds people! Now I wasn't freaking out because the bathroom mirror was telling me a totally different story altogether and in fact had been telling me something different all along. So I grabbed the measuring tape and was shocked to find that I had in fact lost something but it was INCHES rather than weight AND my BMI had decreased rather than increased as had my Body Fat percentage.
Now I log on Spark People everyday so I was intrigued by a posting on the Done Girl's Forum by GINGERRA1980 talking about how she had reached a Plateau and was frustrated with the numbers on her scale. I could so relate to this today but I was glad to see that she had did a little research on the subject and I was reassured that I should NOT be stressing out over a weight gain especially since I had worked out so strenuously these past 5 days. This is what she shared with us on the forum:
5 ways to tell if you're gaining muscle & burning fat...
1.Look in a mirror - If you're looking better then you're gaining muscle and/or Burning fat.
2.If you're getting stronger as you workout then that means you're gaining muscle.
3.If you gained weight but you look about the same or even better then you gained muscle & burned fat.
4.If your waist is getting smaller then you're burning fat but if you also gained weight then you gained muscle and burned fat and...
5.Do the math. If you're body fat percentage is lower then you're burning fat and... If your Body Fat percentage is lower but you gained weight then you gained muscle and burned fat and...
Focus on how you look & not what the scale says becasue...
Losing fat NOT weight makes you look better naked!

Allright CSI Fans! Here are the Comparison photos so break out your magnifying lenses and pull out your AWESOME powers of detection. If you look closely you'll see subtle differences between the 'Before' shots (black shorts) and the 'After' shots (grey shorts). The most noticeable differences are my lower back and chest area. The 'Before' shot shows serious back fat and in the 'After' shot you can see that it has been visibly reduced. Also if you look at the side shots in both you can see that it looks like I've had a bit of a breast reduction. In both photos I'm wearing the same bra from Lane Bryant so the only difference is in the loss of inches to this area. And if you look at the front shots in both pay attention to the area around my hands rest against my body. Look at my hips. There is a discernible gap that has grown between my arms/hands in the 'After' photo when compared to the 'Before' photo.
P.S. I apologize for the spaced-out look on my face in the 'After' photos. I was still thunderstruck by the happy inch-loss news.
