Tomorrow will mark my one year Anniversary on Spark, and boy what a year it was! Down, and up, and down again, then back up. And finally - down.
Of course, it wasn't all entirely my fault.
You see, the year started off well enough - motivation was kicked into high gear and I had set a goal to bike 1,000 miles. Then on June 2nd, "it" happened. I fell. While getting off the bus. No, not the short bus. I fell, good and hard. Hey, I was in heels! After several doctor visits, x-rays, an MRI and physical therapy - the doctor said that I severely sprained my gluteus maximus. Again, if anyone could manage to sprain their butt muscle, it would be me! Took me 3 months to semi-recover from that. Needless to say, I didn't get much biking in.
*Sigh* Then I had a little canoeing accident, which wasn't my fault either; it was my husband's fault since he was the one who was suppose to be steering. We were going at a pretty good clip because the water level was high and was flowing rapidly Well, he ran us right into a huge rock. Took me about month to recover from that one.
*Huge Sigh* Then, I fell again. December 30th. What a way to end the year, eh? Just when I was starting to feel pretty good! We had an ice storm, and as I was maneuvering through parked cars (again, at the bus station), I was on my knees before I even knew what was happening. I still haven't gotten all of the feeling back in my left knee, but at least my gluteus maximus was saved in that fall!
Now, I imagine you think that either I have issues walking or am just clumsy - or both (never mind that my mother nicknamed me "Grace" for a reason). I'll admit to neither and just say that I need to stay away from the bus station and not let my husband steer the canoe this year!
Despite the set-backs and black moods, I'm 20 pounds down from a year ago. And feeling pretty darn good about it, too. I have set another goal of biking 1,000 miles this summer, and I'm determined to meet it this time. In an effort to protect my knees and butt, I have vowed to wear flat shoes while walking in the bus station parking lot.
Here's to another year, and hopefully free of falls!
