I was organizing this afternoon. Itís a rainy day and I have peace and quiet with my DH and son gone for the day. I was focused. However, I found a $10 CASH BACK coupon for my local Kohlís good until April 17. I dropped what I was doing and ran out to Kohlís to get a trinketóa necklace or frame or something. Grrrrrr!!! The coupon is just like their constant 20% off coupons but you have to spend $50 according to the very fine print!!!! I got to the crowded parking lot. I am on crutches. People were on their worst behavior. There was one man cursing aloud to noone because somebody parked too close and blocked his door. Drivers were unfriendly and competitive. Rainy weekend days with sales bring people out in droves.
I hate marketers. I hate how they affect peopleís behaviors. It makes me think of the misleading marketing on food items, too. Did you know Blue Bonnet margarine has 0 Transfats written in large letters all over it. But they are deceptive. They are allowed to say it because they claim a serving is a very tiny amount and in that amount, by FDA definition, they can say 0 because the fraction of transfats is closer to 0 then 1. But partially hyrdrogenated oils are listed as a top ingredient. Grrrrrrr.
A little biochem for the uninitiated. Ö In biochem, we learned different configurations for organic fat molecules. Basically, there is cis- and trans- (depending on where the final hydrogen and the hydroxyl group are located on a certain carbon.) Our biological system is designed for the cis- molecules. Our system does not handle the trans molecule. We have known this forever. But we donít teach our med students in a nutritional way about biochem. Instead, we have them regurgitate the configurations on tests and basically teach them the biochem problems with rare metabolic diseases like Hurlerís syndrome (who all die, so whatís the point).
Anyhow Ėthatís my gripe for the day. Iím back to organizing.
