Life is Good!

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Life continues as a biped, and it certainly hasn't slowed down any.

Today was an interesting day at work. Of course all the surprised looks by folks of me with no cane. "Don't think I never heard you snickering before as I went by," I told them. "'Hey Fred, where's Ginger!' ....'There goes Mr. Planters'.....'Yeah, I think I heard him singing in the rain!'....You were all hilarious....not!"

But the past is behind me....new challenges ahead. Today I felt deliciously sore from yesterday's legwork....quads reminded me of how neglectful I had been with them these past few months, as did hamstrings and glutes. So to make up for my neglect, I took them for a spin session after work...that taught them!

It was interesting to observe my thoughts after work. I went to get gas on my way to the gym ($4.10/gallon!) and realized I didn't have my gym bag. But I do keep a spare in the trunk for just these occasions. "But my Mp3 player doesn't have my new music," I thought "maybe I should can it for today."

It sneaks up on you just that easy! What is it with these excuses?!? Are we just wired to be lazy? Do our brains & bodies just naturally settle for the easy path? I don't know, all I can tell you is that for the 5 minutes (and $60!) it took to fill up my tank, I was building up all sorts of reasons why I should just drive home instead of to the gym.....madness!

By the time I turned on the ignition, I was over it and drove to the gym with resolve, plugged in my old mix set (it was SO 2010!) and cranked out a good half hour. Legs felt better, brain felt better, I felt better.

So now we're gearing up for a wild weekend. We've got this dinner party Saturday. Luckily, SWMBO kicked me and #2 son out for the day while she preps (YAY!), so we'll hit the beach or go bowling until we're allowed back home to get ready. Sunday, she's got me helping out on another event, an annual scholarship thing she does for the local schools (raised about $6,000 and gives them out to seniors around the area) so we're on the docket all afternoon with that. Then Monday I'm off to Omaha, NE for the week, so the adventures continue!

Keep smiling Spark friends....life is good!

Yes, those excuses do sneak up on you. After spending an entire day in meetings in a windowless room, I walked out the door at 4:00 ready to embrace spring break -- and I found a dismal 40-degree rainstorm. Immediately, I thought of how nice it would be to go home, curl up in pajamas, and snuggle with the kids all evening. My husband even voiced my guilty thoughts when he arrived home. But we didn't give in; we dressed the kids, packed up our gear, and headed off to TKD.

Sometimes the biggest successes come from continuing to step forward even as your mind and body are whimpering and whining. Just keep going; the whining stops when the workout begins.

Ah yes, the excuses we can come up with. Fortunately, I don't give in too often. Good for you for sticking to your plan and going to the gym....I know you felt much better for doing it! Have a great time tomorrow!

Arrghh! I had this nice comment all typed out and I erased it some how. LOL

Great blog! That voice is very sneaky. I love some of the excuses it comes up with to be lazy. Reminds me earlier in the week when I forgot my workout socks. My voice tried to convince me I could not workout in my regular socks because it would not match my workout ensemble. Sadly I did entertain the thought. However I decided I was going to rock a new look at the gym, green socks, black shorts and pink shirt. Take that little voice!

WTG on not giving in to temptation! It's such a shame tho that you had to endure such dated music during your workout. I'm so impressed that you were able to overcome such a huge limitation and persevere to have a great workout!!

Omaha??? Now there's a switch from Vegas and DC! Yikes!

Woohoo bipedalism! Bowling sounds like a blast, I have not done that in a while. I even had a friend teach me how to spin the ball like a pro!

And I definitely agree on the excuses, they just pop up right away. But my alarm is set for 845am and to the gym I go! Then a day spent researching/reading, then a night with the best friend for the Capitals/Rangers game!

Omaha? just about in my backyard, I'll be down there at the end of the month.....you have no idea how jealous I am when you talk about hitting the beach to burn some time - nice. Congrats on gaining back your biped status.
